Altum Consulting is seeking an Interim Head of IT to lead a hands-on technology function in Central London. This hybrid role splits time between onsite and remote work, with experienced leadership to manage a small team and oversee day-to-day operations across Microsoft 365, CRM platforms and security controls.

You will drive adoption of core platforms, deliver quick wins, and shape a pragmatic technology roadmap while collaborating with global stakeholders.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a small internal IT team and oversee day-to-day technology operations and service delivery
• Provide hands-on support and escalation across Microsoft 365, user access, hardware, software and general IT issues when required
• Drive adoption and optimisation of core business platforms, particularly HubSpot and ClickUp
• Work directly with users to improve workflows, reporting, processes and ways of working
• Identify and deliver practical AI and automation use cases that improve productivity and effectiveness
• Own and improve the organisation's cyber security posture, including access controls, security awareness and penetration testing
• Manage third-party technology suppliers and support partners across UK and international operations
• Support ongoing website administration and improvements through HubSpot and external partners
• Maintain a pragmatic technology roadmap balancing immediate operational priorities with longer-term improvements

Interim Head of IT

Location: Central London - hybrid, 2 days per week onsite
Contract: 6-12 months
Working pattern: Flexible, 3-5 days per week / fractional options considered
Rate: £500-£600 per day, depending on experience
Start: Immediate

We are working with a high-profile international, purpose-led organisation looking for a hands‑on Interim Head of IT to join on an immediate basis. Operating across multiple international markets and working with a broad range of global stakeholders, the organisation offers the opportunity to lead technology in an environment where its work has a meaningful, real-world impact.

This is a role for someone comfortable setting direction and leading a small team, but equally willing to roll up their sleeves and get hands‑on with systems, users and day‑to‑day technology issues when required.

There is genuine flexibility around the working pattern, with the organisation open to candidates looking for anywhere from 3-5 days per week. This could suit an experienced fractional technology leader looking to add another assignment to their portfolio, as well as someone seeking a more traditional full‑time interim role.

The organisation has recently implemented several new platforms and is now focused on improving adoption, getting more value from its technology and delivering practical, visible improvements and quick wins rather than large‑scale transformation programmes.

About you

You are likely to have:

• Experience as a Head of IT, IT Manager, Technology Manager or similar, ideally within a small or medium‑sized organisation.
• A genuinely hands‑on, sleeves‑rolled‑up approach, comfortable moving between strategic priorities and day‑to‑day IT issues.
• Experience managing and developing a small IT team.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration, including users, permissions and access.
• Hands‑on experience with CRM platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce or Zoho, including improving processes, reporting and user adoption.
• A track record of improving system adoption and user engagement, rather than simply implementing new technology.
• Good knowledge of cyber security, IT controls and operational resilience.
• Experience managing external technology suppliers and partners.
• An interest in AI and automation, with the ability to turn potential use cases into practical solutions.

Experience within B2B, professional services, membership, events or similarly project‑led environments would be advantageous but is not essential.

This opportunity would particularly suit someone who enjoys working in smaller organisations where the remit is broad, decisions can be made quickly and technology leaders remain close to both users and systems. Immediate or short‑notice availability is strongly preferred.
