An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced interim General Manager to join an NHS Acute Trust as part of the senior leadership team for the Emergency Medicine Care Group. This is a key role that will play a pivotal part in leading operational excellence across the group and driving the delivery of high-quality, efficient, and effective patient care.
The Trust are seeking an accomplished NHS leader who can hit the ground running, bringing both strategic oversight and operational delivery expertise. This is a 6-month fixed-term contract, at Band 8d, requiring an ASAP start.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and be accountable for the operational, clinical, and financial performance of the Acute Emergency Medicine Care Group;
- Ensure timely delivery of national and local access targets, including ED 4-hour performance and ambulance handovers;
- Deliver corporate objectives and support the Trust’s move towards 7-day working services;
- Provide highly visible and effective leadership across the Care Group, ensuring alignment with Trust-wide goals and values;
- Oversee day-to-day service delivery, with a focus on safety, quality, and continuous improvement;
- Develop and implement strategies to improve patient flow, reduce delays, and manage demand across urgent care pathways;
- Drive financial accountability, achieving agreed targets while balancing service quality and resource constraints;
- Coordinate with other Care Groups to ensure integrated and seamless service delivery across specialties;
- Engage with clinical teams to foster collaboration and support change management initiatives;
- Lead on business planning and the development of service improvement business cases in line with the Trust's strategic objectives.
Person Specification:- Educated to Degree level with a Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience;
- Demonstrable continuing professional development in operational or strategic healthcare management;
- Significant experience working at a senior level within the NHS or wider public sector, with in-depth knowledge of current NHS reform and policy drivers;
- Proven track record in leading multidisciplinary teams, delivering performance and financial targets;
- Strong background in business planning, change management, and service improvement across complex clinical environments.
