Job Title:

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Interim Fractional Finance Director (FD) to support our retail business during a period of transition and growth. This is a hands-on leadership role focused on stabilising and strengthening the finance function while contributing to wider strategic goals. Working closely with senior management, you will take ownership of financial planning, statutory compliance, and cash flow oversight, ensuring the business is well-positioned for the next phase of its development.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Strategic Finance & Business Partnering
  2. Act as a key adviser to the CEO and senior leadership team.
  3. Drive financial strategy and commercial decision-making to support retail growth and performance.
  4. Evaluate business performance and recommend improvements aligned with market conditions and commercial objectives.
  5. Cash Flow Management & Reporting
  6. Deliver robust short- and medium-term cash flow forecasts, including seasonal retail trading considerations.
  7. Provide insight into cash flow trends, risks, and mitigation strategies.
  8. Establish controls and processes to manage working capital efficiently.
  9. Statutory Reporting & Year-End
  10. Oversee preparation and completion of statutory accounts.
  11. Lead the year-end process, working with external accountants and auditors.
  12. Ensure compliance with UK GAAP and all relevant financial and regulatory requirements.
  13. Corporate Tax & Compliance
  14. Manage corporation tax, VAT, and other regulatory submissions.
  15. Liaise with HMRC and external tax advisers as required.
  16. Ensure the business meets all statutory tax obligations on time and accurately.
  17. Improve financial systems, processes, and reporting frameworks where necessary.
  18. Provide oversight of management accounts, budgeting, and forecasting processes.
  19. Ensure strong internal controls across retail operations and finance functions.
Skills & Experience Required:
  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Previous experience as a Finance Director in the retail sector (or similar product-based environment).
  • Proven experience managing statutory accounts, tax compliance, and year-end close.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to link financials to business strategy.
  • Advanced Excel and financial modelling skills; experience with retail finance systems (e.g., EPOS, inventory, ERP) preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and flexibly in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
