Job summary

Swanky is seeking an Interim Financial Controller for a six-month contract in the Exeter area. This hands-on role sits with the CFO, ideal for a qualified accountant comfortable with reporting and management accounting.

The role leads day-to-day finance activities, strengthens processes, and oversees audits. It is hybrid (Exeter office two–three days weekly) with openness to remote work for those able to spend initial time on-site.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA or ACCA.
• Strong technical accounting and financial reporting background.
• Experience in reporting and management accounting.
• Experience in professional services or project-based businesses is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Leading the finance function on a day-to-day basis
• Preparing monthly management accounts and delivering reporting to senior stakeholders
• Monitoring cash flow and ensuring statutory and payroll obligations are met
• Overseeing month-end close and statutory accounting processes
• Supporting audit delivery and acting as a key contact for external advisors
• Preparing and reviewing technical accounting papers and disclosures
• Driving improvements in financial controls and reporting quality
• Maintaining strong balance sheet control and governance across the group

Job description

Following private equity investment, we're growing our group finance function and looking for an Interim Financial Controller to join us on an initial six-month contract.

This hands-on role sits alongside the CFO and would suit a qualified accountant who is equally comfortable in reporting and management accounting, and who enjoys building strong foundations as a business scales.

You'll lead the finance function day to day: preparing management information, strengthening financial processes and controls, and overseeing the annual audit and accounts preparation. It's a genuine opportunity to shape how a growing business runs its finances and make a measurable impact from day one.

This is a hybrid role, typically requiring two to three days a week in our Exeter office. We also welcome applications from candidates based outside Exeter who are open to a remote arrangement, provided they can spend time on site during the first month.

What you'll be doing
