Job Description

Are you a Qualified Senior Finance Leader within the Public Sector? My Client is looking to hire a Finance Director to work on an ongoing basis until a Permanent head is recruited. The role will be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership and management of all financial, commercial, and economic activities within the agency, offering expert advice and support during organizational change and transformation. Ensuring robust financial stewardship, effective governance, and value for money in decision-making, aligning with public sector standards.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and support the Finance, Commercial, and Economics functions to deliver professional services and advice, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, government controls, and standards.
  • Champion visible and inclusive leadership to inspire high performance and develop the skills and capacity of teams.
  • Serve as lead Executive for Audit and Risk Assurance Committee, be a full Main Board member, and be accountable for risk management and corporate assurance, reporting to the Audit Risk and Assurance Committee.
  • Chair internal committees including Finance and Investment Committee and Commercial Assurance Panel.
  • Act as a guardian for departmental budgets, efficiency targets, and ensure compliance with Managing Public Money.
  • Provide strategic financial guidance to the Chief Executive and Executive Team, supporting corporate objectives and robust financial planning.
  • Promote financial probity, governance, accountability, and internal controls.
  • Ensure timely delivery of reports and accounts, including government and departmental reporting.
  • Improve financial operations and systems continuously.
  • Drive value for money and evidence-based decision-making organization-wide.
  • Enhance commercial acumen and embed procurement and commercial strategies aligned with best practices.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder relationships across government to manage risks and ensure sound financial and investment decisions.

The Successful Applicant

  • Senior leadership experience in finance within complex, preferably public sector, organizations.
  • Proven ability to deliver strong financial management and value for money.
  • Experience leading and motivating multidisciplinary teams through change.
  • Strategic planning and influence at the board level.
  • Ability to build broad stakeholder relationships.
  • Capability to develop and deliver strategic direction for complex organizations.
  • Promotion of operational and professional excellence.
