Job summary

Michael Page is assisting a North London client in recruiting an Interim Engineering Manager on a 3-month contract. You will lead the engineering and maintenance function, drive plant reliability, and ensure safety and compliance across the site.

You will manage PPM and reactive maintenance, supervise the maintenance team, and coordinate with Production to minimise downtime. The role requires a recognised engineering qualification, strong leadership, H&S knowledge, and a track record in budget

Qualifications

• Recognised engineering qualification plus experience overseeing preventive and reactive maintenance systems.
• Strong leadership and ability to develop technical talent within an engineering team.
• Excellent H&S knowledge including risk assessments, safe systems of work, and COSHH requirements.
• Experience coordinating with production/operations in fast-paced settings.
• Solid project and contractor management experience with budgets.
• Proactive, continuous-improvement mindset and strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the engineering department ensuring high performance and accountability.
• Manage all PPM schedules and reactive maintenance activities.
• Monitor machinery performance and minimise downtime through targeted solutions.
• Coordinate maintenance with Production teams to limit operational disruption.
• Lead regular inspections and maintenance programs (daily/weekly/monthly).
• Manage spares, inventory, and supplier relationships.
• Oversee installation, commissioning, and reviews of plant/equipment.
• Support site improvement projects and capital investment initiatives.
• Manage external contractors and audit workmanship standards.
• Ensure Health & Safety compliance and COSHH requirements across the site.
• Conduct risk assessments, audits, and environmental compliance activities.
• Recruit, train, and develop engineering staff; manage budgets and quotes.
• Drive continuous improvement and best practice across the site.

Job description

My client is looking for an experienced and proactive Interim Engineering Manager to take full responsibility for their engineering and maintenance function at their North London site. This is a key leadership role where you'll drive plant reliability, maximise equipment uptime, lead maintenance strategy, and ensure the highest standards of safety, compliance, and operational performance across the site on an initial 3 month contract.

Description

• Lead and develop the engineering department, ensuring high standards of performance and accountability.
• Manage all planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules and reactive maintenance activities.
• Monitor machinery performance and implement solutions to minimise downtime.
• Work closely with Production teams to coordinate maintenance activities with minimal operational disruption.

Profile

• Recognised Engineering qualification (HNC or above)
• Strong knowledge of preventative and reactive maintenance systems
• Experience managing engineering teams and developing technical talent.
• Excellent understanding of Health & Safety, risk assessments, safe systems of work, and COSHH requirements.
• Experience working with production and operations teams in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong project management and contractor management experience.
• Budget management and cost-control capability.
• A proactive, continuous improvement mindset with excellent problem-solving skills.

Job Offer

• Daily rate of up to £600
• Temporary role within the North London area.
