Interim Director of Sustainable Development Required

Contract Length: 6 months+ (Interim Assignment)

Location: East of England (Hybrid working arrangement)

Rate of Pay: £650 – £700 per day (Inside IR35)

Venn Group are currently supporting a council in the East of England, who are seeking an Interim Director of Sustainable Development to lead the division and play a pivotal role in delivering the council’s 2040 vision, including town centre regeneration, airport growth, inward investment, and the ambition to become a net zero carbon town by 2040.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Leading the Sustainable Development Division and managing senior teams and resources in line with corporate priorities
  • Providing strategic advice to the Corporate Management Team on planning, transport, and environmental policy
  • Driving regeneration, transport strategies, and decarbonisation initiatives
  • Leading organisational change, digitalisation, equality, and health & safety within services
  • Building strong relationships with partners, businesses, and community stakeholders

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong track record in senior leadership, delivering large-scale transformation programmes
  • Extensive experience in land use, transport, and environmental policy development
  • Strong commercial and strategic acumen with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Professional qualification in a relevant discipline (planning, transport, or environment)
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (RTPI, CIHT, CILT or similar)
