Job summary

Nature Geoscience is seeking an Interim Associate or Senior Climate Science Editor to join the Nature Portfolio editorial team in London or Pune. This fixed-term, full-time role focuses on climate science research and editorial decision-making.

The editor will assess manuscripts, oversee peer review, and contribute to content strategy while collaborating with editors across Nature Portfolio. Travel to meet scientists worldwide is expected.

Qualifications

• PhD (or equivalent) in climate science.
• Strong understanding of recent trends and developments in the field.
• Passion for science and breadth of research interests.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including fluent English.
• Ability to read and assess the novelty, context and implications of research.

Responsibilities

• Manuscript Assessment and Critical Scientific Evaluation - Handling original research papers and working closely with editor teams on all aspects of the editorial process, including manuscript selection and overseeing peer review.
• Decision Quality - Making well-reasoned editorial decisions on submitted manuscripts in the light of expert advice.
• Scientific Comprehension - Contributing to content and strategy in this area at Nature Geoscience and other Nature Portfolio journals as needed.
• Scientific & Academic Writing - Commissioning, editing content such as Reviews, or writing editorials.
• Collaboration, Communicates Effectively - Liaising with editors at other journals in Nature Portfolio and with international experts.
• Attending conferences and visiting research institutions.
