Job summary

SENCare Recruitment is assisting a specialist SEN school in Berkshire with an Interim Assistant Headteacher appointment. The role is interim/temporary and requires immediate leadership to sustain high standards of education, safeguarding and pastoral care for children and young people with SEN/SEMH needs.

The successful candidate will support strategic and operational leadership, oversee teaching and pupil outcomes, and deputise for senior leaders as required.

Qualifications

• QTS required and previous senior leadership role.
• Experience with SEN/SEMH pupils.
• Experience in a specialist school or complex-needs setting.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge.
• Ability to lead and motivate multidisciplinary teams.
• Calm, resilient, solution-focused approach.
• Ability to quickly establish leadership from day one.

Responsibilities

• Support the Headteacher with strategic and operational leadership.
• Provide visible leadership to teaching and support staff.
• Support high standards of teaching, learning and pupil outcomes.
• Lead behaviour, safeguarding and pastoral care.
• Support pupils with SEN, SEMH and complex needs.
• Monitor standards and contribute to school improvement priorities.
• Coaching and direction to staff.
• Work with parents, carers and external professionals.
• Ensure policies implemented consistently across the school.
• Support inspections and quality assurance as required.
• Deputise for senior leaders when necessary.
