Job description

Our client is seeking an Interface Engineering Manager to support a major railway systems programme at Old Oak Common in London. This permanent, safety-critical role will provide technical leadership across electrical engineering and multidisciplinary rail interfaces, ensuring that systems integrate safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage technical, construction and operational interfaces across the railway systems programme
  • Maintain interface registers, Interface Control Documents, actions, dependencies, risks and outstanding issues
  • Coordinate communication between Network Rail, HS2, BBVS, designers, contractors, suppliers and internal delivery teams
  • Organise interface meetings, technical workshops and stakeholder reviews, ensuring decisions are documented and communicated
  • Manage interface records within the HS2 Relatics system, including reviewing submissions and tracking obligations through to completion
  • Support systems integration across track, permanent way, signalling, telecommunications, OLE, electrical and plant, high-voltage power distribution, traction power, civils and station systems
  • Monitor interfaces through design, construction, testing and commissioning, escalating issues where necessary
  • Support technical reviews, audits, engineering change control, configuration management and assurance activities
Safety and Quality:
  • Promote a strong safety culture and apply Safe by Design principles throughout project delivery
  • Ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, Railway Group Standards, HS2 requirements, CDM Regulations and internal procedures
  • Participate in safety reviews and site activities while maintaining accurate, auditable records
  • Identify integration risks and ensure requirements are incorporated into designs and construction activities
Job Requirements:
  • Experience in interface management on major rail infrastructure projects
  • Strong understanding of multidisciplinary railway systems and electrical engineering principles
  • Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders, organisations and technical disciplines
  • Ability to maintain technical registers, manage actions and resolve complex interface issues
  • Knowledge of systems engineering, railway assurance processes, engineering change control and configuration management
  • Strong stakeholder management, communication, negotiation, planning and organisational skills
  • Confident leadership and influencing abilities, with the judgement to raise risks and decisions appropriately
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience using Relatics would be advantageous
Qualifications and Experience:
  • HNC, HND or degree in engineering, ideally supported by electrical engineering knowledge
  • Membership of a relevant professional institution
  • Knowledge of CDM Regulations and railway governance requirements
  • Personal Track Safety certification, or willingness to obtain it
  • Chartered Engineer status, or progress towards chartership, would be desirable
  • Experience in HS2, major station projects, GRIP or PACE environments would be advantageous
What Success Looks Like:

Success in this role will involve maintaining accurate and up-to-date interface records, closing actions and dependencies promptly, supporting successful audits and preventing programme delays caused by poor interface management. The Interface Engineering Manager will build strong relationships across all stakeholders while supporting the safe integration and assurance of railway systems and station interfaces.
