Job summary

Coventry City Council is recruiting two Intensive Support Youth Worker posts to help young people facing difficulties by delivering intervention programmes and targeted youth work. You will lead, develop and deliver services such as the Turnaround Programme, and provide consultations to colleagues as needed.

Applicants should hold a JNC Professional Qualification in Youth Work, with at least 12 months post-qualification experience and a solid understanding of evidence-based practices.

Coventry’s Early Help Service is delivered through eight Family Hubs, which are located across the city. The Family Hubs provide services for children, young people and families, and work in partnership with the Social Work Teams and with partner agencies to ensure that children and families are in receipt of the Effective Support for Children and Families.
Early Help is the identification and response to emerging needs within children and their families, focusing on building resilience as well as providing help at a time when evidence indicates that support can have the most impact. Coventry continues to invest in the Early Help Service and remains proud of the work undertaken by the Family Hubs and its Partners.

What is the job role?
Two exciting opportunities have arisen to recruit a specialist Intensive Support Youth Worker. Your role will be to work with young people who are experiencing difficulties in their lives by delivering intervention programmes and providing support, such as the Turnaround Programme.
This role will require individuals to lead, develop and deliver targeted youth work, offering consultations to the wider workforce as and when required.

We are recruiting two posts:

• 37 hours per week
• 18.5 hours per week

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?
To be successful in this role, you will need:

• JNC Professional Qualification in Youth Work
• Minimum 12 months' post-qualification experience
• Knowledge of relevant evidence base for youth work interventions & practice
• An understanding of the issues affecting young people and families, including the signs and risks of abuse and exploitation, inequality of treatment relating to race, gender, disability, social & economic circumstance and sexual orientation
• Developed written & verbal communication skills and an ability to engage and communicate with a diverse range of children, young people and their families, including those with complex communication needs.
