As an ICU Nurse representing Evolve Staffing Ltd, you will deliver high-acuity, one-to‑one advanced nursing care to critically ill patients experiencing single or multi‑organ failure, severe sepsis, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), complex surgical complications, or life‑threatening trauma. If you possess expert clinical knowledge in invasive physiological monitoring, advanced mechanical ventilation, inotropic support, and renal replacement therapy, this template provides a fast‑track pathway to rewarding agency shifts in Bristol.

Key Responsibilities & Clinical Critical Care Duties

As a Band 5 Intensive Care Unit Nurse, you will be responsible for managing complex, unstable critical care patients requiring continuous Level 3 intensive care or Level 2 high dependency care.

Advanced Respiratory & Airway Management

• Operating, troubleshooting, and managing invasive mechanical ventilators (e.g., Hamilton, Servo-i, Draeger) across various modes including Volume Control, Pressure Control, and SIMV/PSV.
• Care and management of endotracheal tubes (ETT) and tracheostomies, including inner tube changes, subglottic suctioning, cuff pressure monitoring, and emergency airway management.
• Arterial Blood Gas (ABG) sampling, analysis, and clinical interpretation to guide ventilator settings and acid‑base adjustments.
• Administering non‑invasive ventilation (NIV), including Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) and Bi‑level Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP), as well as High‑Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) therapy.

Hemodynamic Monitoring & Cardiovascular Support

• Continuous monitoring and setup of invasive arterial lines, central venous catheter (CVC) lines, and Pulmonary Artery Catheters (PAC/PICCO) for cardiac output monitoring.
• Safe preparation, titration, and administration of continuous intravenous vasoactive infusions, vasopressors, and inotropes (e.g., Noradrenaline, Adrenaline, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Vasopressin) via target‑controlled infusion pumps.
• Management of invasive hemodynamic monitoring devices and interpretation of Central Venous Pressure (CVP), Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP), and Systemic Vascular Resistance (SVR).
• Recognizing and responding swiftly to cardiac collapse, arrhythmias, shock (septic, cardiogenic, hypovolemic), and cardiac arrest, participating actively in resuscitation protocols (ALS).

Renal Replacement Therapy & Sedation Management

• Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) management, including continuous veno‑venous hemofiltration (CVVH / CVVHD) circuit setup, fluid balance calculations, filter replacement, and anticoagulation management (Citrate or Heparin).
• Titration of continuous intravenous sedation, analgesia, and neuromuscular blocking agents (e.g., Propofol, Midazolam, Fentanyl, Alfentanil, Atracurium) using validated tools such as the Richmond Agitation‑Sedation Scale (RASS).
• Daily sedation holds and spontaneous breathing trials (SBT) in collaboration with ICU medical consultants.

Holistic Critical Care & Governance

• Delivery of meticulous pressure area care, hygiene care, eye care, mouth care, and patient positioning (including prone positioning for severe ARDS).
• Enteral and parenteral nutrition management, including fine‑bore nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion, residual volume checks, and TPN administration.
• Multi‑organ failure management, continuous NEWS2 scoring, and meticulous end‑of‑life / palliative care provision with compassion and dignity.
• Carrying out structured clinical handovers using SBAR methodology and maintaining flawless ICU electronic patient records (ICIP / CIS).

Candidate Requirements & Qualifications

• Professional Registration: Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Adult Nurse (RNA / Level 1 Nurse).
• Post-Registration Qualification: Possession of a recognized Post-Registration Critical Care / ICU Nursing Qualification (e.g., ENB 100, Step 1/2/3 National Competencies for Critical Care Nurses, or equivalent university module) is highly desirable.
• Clinical Experience: Minimum of 6–12 months recent post‑qualification experience working in a UK NHS Intensive Care Unit (ICU / ITU / HDU).
• Life Support Certifications: Valid Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Immediate Life Support (ILS) certification.
• Compliance Standards:
  • Valid Right to Work in the United Kingdom.
  • Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check registered on the Update Service.
  • Comprehensive occupational health clearance, including full immunity against Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Tuberculosis.
  • Two satisfactory professional clinical references from ICU Band 6 / Band 7 charge nurses or nurse managers covering the last 3 years.
