Job description

Intelligence Development Officer (IDO) - Research and Analysis (CTPSE) (Maternity Leave cover until November 2025)

Department: Research and Analysis

Location: Newbury

Rank/Grade: TVP Broad Band 3G

Salary: £33,821 per annum plus 5% shift allowance

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) within the Research and Analysis team as an Intelligence Development Officer (IDO), covering a period of Maternity Leave until November 2025.

The Research and Analysis Team produces high quality research and analytical products to support all areas of CTPSE business.

The Intelligence Development Officer role is varied and challenging, requiring the production of a wide range of high quality research products for many different customers, both internal and external.

We are looking for an outgoing, proactive and flexible candidate with a can-do attitude. This role requires working unsocial hours and overcoming unexpected challenges to get the job done. In return, you will work in a unique and diverse environment contributing to the fight against terrorism in the UK.

The ideal candidate will be a good team player with relevant experience in an intelligence environment. As an IDO, you will be required to:

  1. Research using a range of systems including those available as open source
  2. Collate and assess intelligence and present your findings in intelligence products, summarising clearly, concisely and accurately
  3. Identify intelligence gaps and provide specific, achievable, and relevant recommendations
  4. Conduct compliant research in accordance with legislation, for example, IPA
  5. Support live operational activity
  6. Liaise with internal and external colleagues, including Senior Investigating Officers, to progress investigations into CT subjects of interest
  7. Work in partnership with teams throughout CT Policing and the wider intelligence community
  8. Support and respond to spontaneous/critical/major incidents and/or events within the remit of Policing

Please refer to the attached job description for a full outline of the role.

Although the working location is fixed, there is often a requirement to travel across the South East Region. Flexibility regarding working hours is necessary in line with operational demand, which may require working away from home.

Due to the requirement for flexible working hours and personal safety for lone working, a full UK driving licence is considered essential.

Once fully trained, this IDO role operates across a shift pattern between 08:00 - 19:00, including working one weekend in five, which attracts a shift allowance in addition to the base salary. Working hours and arrangements can be discussed at interview.

Due to the nature of our work, security is of paramount importance. Therefore, it will be necessary to pass and maintain vetting level SC along with enhanced security checks. To achieve this, you must be a British National and have resided in the UK for the past five years. Exemptions may apply for overseas or other diplomatic service (with HM Government) and studying abroad.

To apply, click on the “Apply” button below and submit your application before the closing date of 19 January 2025 at 23.55.

The leadership within CTPSE and SEROCU are committed to embedding and sustaining an inclusive culture that recognises and champions the diversity of our people, promoting equity and equality so that everyone can succeed at work. We welcome applications from those interested in part-time and flexible working and encourage applications from our underrepresented communities.

Our people report that benefits include a good work/life balance, a supportive and welcoming work environment, and excellent terms including a generous pension scheme and annual leave entitlement.

IMPORTANT: If you are already a Thames Valley Police (TVP) member of staff and have been in your post for less than twelve months, your application must be supported by your line manager. Written confirmation from your line manager will be required to proceed.

Shift allowance, on-call, or other job-related allowances from your previous role will not be protected unless attached to the new role.
