Intelligence Assistant - South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU)

The South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) is looking for an Intelligence Assistant keen to progress their career as part of our Gateway team within the Regional Intelligence Unit (RIU).

Hours - Full time or part time, no less than 30 hrs pw.

Location -Almondsbury - SW ROCU Northern Hub, within the vicinity of junction 16 of M5 - BS34 6PY

SWROCU is part of the national ROCU network who work hand in hand with local forces and national partners to target and disrupt criminals posing the greatest risk of Serious and Organised Criminality (SOC). This includes offenders involved in cyber threats, economic crime, drug conspiracies, modern slavery and human trafficking and child sexual abuse and exploitation. SWROCU seeks to lead and support the region working with the forces and national leads to promote consistency and use of best practice and technology.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Gateway team, as an Intelligence Assistant you will be the first point of contact for access to Regional Police Resources ensuring intelligence and risk is prioritised and actioned. The team respond to enquiries and assist in developing intelligence which helps to inform and influence decision making at all levels of policing. Working on the team will be varied with insight into the Regional Organised Crime Unit and the varied threats and risks involving Serious and Organised Crime and how they make a real difference to the community.

Main responsibilities include the collation and dissemination of relevant intelligence information in support of the National Intelligence Model process on behalf of the Gateway Team. You will provide an initial point of contact service either by telephone or in person for internal service users of intelligence and partners. Your role will involve liaising and working closely with internal departments, other forces and partner agencies to ensure a timely exchange of relevant information.

SWROCU is a collaboration of police officers and police staff from the five South West regional forces. We’re part of a national network of nine ROCUs covering England and Wales.

We have more than 20 capabilities that staff and officers work in to Pursue offenders, Protect and Prepare individuals and organisations, and Prevent people from engaging in serious and organised crime.

Our capabilities are here to advise, to assist, or to fully adopt investigations.

Skills, experience and qualifications required

Essential:

  • The post holder will hold IPP (Intelligence Professionalisation Programme) accreditation or willing to gain it.
  • The post holder will need excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to adapt their style as necessary.
  • Excellent IT Skills, including the ability to use and update a wide range of computer systems with experience of Microsoft Packages including Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams.
  • The post holder must be able to work as part of a team.
  • The post holder will require experience of decision making, with the ability to problem solve. Along with previous experience of conducting investigations and research skills.
  • The post holder must have an accurate and methodical approach to their work, especially in relation to attention to detail.
  • An awareness of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) is desirable.

Vetting and safeguarding

This post is subject to a higher security clearance at MV and SC – Management Vetting and Security Clearance Level.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must have a five-year ‘checkable history’ in the UK – ideally this means that you would have been resident in the UK for the last five years.
