Job summary

Riverlane in Cambridge is seeking an Integration Software Engineer to help build the world’s first quantum error correction stack - Deltaflow, and deploy it to real customers. You will work with customers onsite when needed and collaborate with engineering, product and physics teams.

This role offers hybrid work, a competitive salary (£65,000 - £80,000 DOE) and a comprehensive benefits package including private medical insurance and pension.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in CS, EE, Physics, Maths or related field.
  • Excellent communication and ability to work with diverse teams.
  • Strong Python skills and proficiency with C++ (modern features).
  • Experience with Python-based scripts or test harnesses.
  • Experience developing software for embedded apps and/or testing hardware.
  • Experience with source control and continuous integration.
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, SOLID and clean code.
  • Familiarity with software testing (unit/integration/end-to-end).

Responsibilities

  • Design and build embedded software components for the Deltaflow QEC stack.
  • Integrate the QEC stack into quantum computing systems.
  • Develop test infrastructure to verify system correctness and performance.
  • Collaborate with Product and Quantum Science teams to understand requirements.

About the role

At Riverlane, we build new and advanced solutions to solve one of the hardest problems in quantum computing: quantum error correction (QEC). As a Integration Software Engineer at Riverlane, you will help build the world’s first quantum error correction stack - Deltaflow, and help deploy it to real customers. You will be excited by the opportunity to work with customers, including onsite with the customer, to ensure the integration of Deltaflow with their system. This cutting-edge work will involve collaborating with our world-class engineering, product and quantum physics teams to design, build and deliver this stack.

As such, you will be happy and excited to get hands-on quickly in areas outside your ownexpertise. You will also work well with different people and beteam-oriented.

Prior quantum computing knowledge is not necessary - you will learn this along the way!

What you will do:
  • Design and build embedded software components for our quantum error correction stack, specifically targeting features that aid with seamless deployment of our product to partners
  • Integrate our QEC stack into world-class quantum computing systems
  • Develop test infrastructure to verify and benchmark whole-system correctness and performance
  • Work alongside our Product and Quantum Science teams to understand the requirements and constraints for thiscutting-edgesystem
What we need
  • ABachelor'sdegree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Physics,Mathsor a related discipline
  • Great communicationskills and an ability to work with a diverse range of people are essential
  • Strong Python skills and proficiency with C++ , namely:
    • Able to show substantial experience of developing and designing Python3 tools or applications in a professional, production environment, Ideally, including experience of doing this in a hardware control/interfacing context.
    • Able to demonstrate professional experience of developing using C++ to produce production-grade released code. Including use of modern (C++14 or later) C++ features, such as memory management, multithreading, STL libraries, etc.
    • Able to demonstrate an understanding of design and architecture best practices such as object-orientation, SOLID principals and clean code.
    • Able to demonstrate an understanding of software testing best practices, such as unit testing, integration testing, end-to-end testing. Ideally in an embedded context.
  • Experience of developing scripts or test harnesses with Python
  • Curiosity to learn aboutnew technologies, including quantum computing and error correction
  • Experience of developing software for embedded applications and/or for testing hardware devices. Ideally, including interface protocols such as serial, UART, I2C, tcp/ip.
  • Experience with standard development practices, such as source control, continuous integration and unit testing

  • Experience of working with external customers in a system deployment or on-going support context, or, can demonstrate a desire to work directly with customers.
  • Experience of deploying and verifying production software onto customer systems or environments.
