Job summary

NHS Scotland is seeking a Band 6 Community Midwife for the Mid Argyll locality on a fixed term/secondment arrangement until September 2027. The post involves direct antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care for women and families within the locality, with autonomy in practice and support from Greater Glasgow and Clyde consultants.

Qualifications

  • Registered midwife with NMC

  • Proven capacity to work autonomously and handle on-call duties

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to women and families
  • Support women in choosing place of birth and deliver care within a community midwifery model
  • Practise autonomously with support from GG&C consultants
  • Be available for out-of-hours on-call care and respond to obstetric emergencies
  • Participate in training and development under the Service level Agreement with GG&C

This is a band 6 Community Midwife post for the Mid Argyll locality offered on a fixed term/secondment contract until September 2027.

The post holder will provide direct antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care to women and their families within the Mid Argyll locality.

You will be responsible for supporting women in their choice of place of birth and provide care under a community midwifery model. The midwife will practice autonomously. The midwives are supported by the consultants from Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

There is an on call requirement to provide care to women during birth in the out of hours period and to be able to respond to obstetric emergencies with the support from the on call GP and hospital staff. The Mid Argyll Midwifery Team is a small team who are committed to providing an excellent service to the patients within the locality. Training is provided and there is a Service level Agreement with GG&C for any ongoing training and development.

A driving licence is essential for this post.

  • Effective from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reduced from 37 to 36 hours. Part-time hours will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis. There will be an increase in the hourly rate to ensure that pay remains unaffected.
