Main Duties

Our staff nurses work across the 0-19 service, engaging positively with diverse clients in community settings. Responsibilities include child health screening, health promotion, clinical duties, school drop-in/Healthy Child clinics, antenatal contacts, health reviews, and supporting parenting in various environments including homes, clinics, schools, and via digital means.

Upon completing a Band 5 competency pack, nurses may choose to specialize in either health visiting or school nursing. Applicants should specify their preference in their supporting statement. We encourage those willing to undertake SCPHN courses and support career progression.

Job Responsibilities

Management & Leadership:

  • Ensure equitable service delivery, participate in team meetings, meet KPIs, and uphold clinical governance.
  • Support team functioning, act as a positive role model, and participate in education and training, including supervision and induction of new staff.

Partnership & Service Users:

  • Engage children, parents, and carers in service development and quality assurance.
  • Clarify the role of the school nurse with stakeholders and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

Quality Assurance:

  • Maintain clinical governance mechanisms, participate in audits, and support service development initiatives.

Revalidation & Registration:

  • Act as a registered practitioner, accountable for own actions, with current NMC registration, and manage workload effectively.
Person Specification

Knowledge of Safeguarding, Clinical Governance, the Healthy Child Programme, and evidence of CPD. Must hold current NMC registration as a nurse. This role is subject to a DBS check.

Salary: £35,763 to £43,466 per year, including Outer HCAS.
