Economic capital is increasingly important at AIG, supporting capital management, risk management, budgeting, strategy, and pricing. It guides risk-return trade-offs and informs risk-aware business decisions aligned with corporate objectives.

How you will create an impact

This role offers an excellent opportunity to enhance methods and update calibrations for Insurance Risk, consolidating approaches for AIG’s Group and Local Economic Capital Models. The role aims to deepen understanding of volatility and risk quantification within the business, facilitating collaboration with business partners.

This position involves high-level communication and collaboration with internal stakeholders, including Actuarial, Underwriting, ERM, and Finance teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Quantify insurance risk inputs, reviewing data provided by other teams for accuracy.
  • Lead updates of non-cat Insurance Risk calibration across North America and International teams.
  • Update AIG’s statistical Man-Made Cat models used for the group Economic Capital model, seeking convergence with local methods.
  • Maintain models and methods for measuring non-cat Insurance Risk.
  • Develop new methodologies and metrics for emerging risks and business changes.
  • Communicate results to stakeholders and train them in risk-based decision-making.
  • Empower first-line actuaries to incorporate risk quantifications into pricing and business discussions.
  • Create presentations demonstrating risk quantification tailored to specific lines of business.
  • Prepare and present Insurance Risk reports to working groups and Risk Committees.
  • Design testing frameworks, including back-testing and sensitivity analysis, and coordinate with the Internal Model Validation team.
  • Maintain logs, reports, and documentation for internal and external review.

What you’ll need to succeed

  • Experience in Insurance Risk measurement within General Insurance.
  • Proficiency as an Economic Capital Modeller with stochastic modelling expertise.
  • Experience managing large projects with resource allocation and deadline management.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
  • Excellent qualitative and quantitative quality control skills.
  • Effective communication skills for stakeholder presentations and report writing.
  • Knowledge of Solvency II regulation and related regimes.
