Overview:
A global insurer is seeking an experienced Insurance Risk Engineer to conduct in-depth risk assessments and technical evaluations for clients in the Refinery, Chemical, Petrochemical, COMAH, and Hydrogen sectors. This is a client-facing role requiring a blend of technical expertise, commercial understanding, and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct detailed risk assessments, identifying risk characteristics, evaluating site conditions, and reviewing safety measures to support accurate risk pricing.
Investigate significant incidents and failures to determine contributing factors and responsibilities.
Identify and recommend improvements to the risk selection, assignment, and survey processes, ensuring efficiency across varying risk locations.
Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement alternative survey methods, including virtual assessments.
Evaluate and enhance virtual survey tools, processes, and technologies to ensure effective risk evaluations.
Work with senior management to implement operational improvements that balance efficiency, quality, and cost control.
Support clients with the development of structured risk management solutions, providing tailored guidance and recommendations.
Skills & Competencies:
Strong technical knowledge in risk management, maintenance practices, and health & safety standards within high-hazard industries.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of translating complex technical matters for a range of stakeholders.
Strong analytical, strategic planning, and financial assessment skills.
Proven sales and relationship management abilities, with strong client-facing experience.
Good understanding of relevant regulations and compliance frameworks.
High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills and commercial acumen.
Effective diplomacy, negotiation, time management, and the ability to work under pressure.
Qualifications:
First degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering (required).
10-15 years' experience in Refinery, Chemical, Petrochemical, COMAH, or Hydrogen sectors.
Prior experience as a Survey Risk Engineer in Insurance or related sectors is essential.
Experience within the Oil & Gas sector is advantageous.
