Job description

Petcover is a global pet insurance provider covering all animals from budgies to bulldogs and skinks to stallions. We are the leading pet insurance provider in Australia and New Zealand and are growing rapidly in the UK and Europe.

Bring your strategic expertise to a role that shapes the future of pet insurance across multiple markets. We’re looking for a Portfolio Manager who combines commercial insight with a genuine passion for delivering products that protect pets and support their owners worldwide. Based in the UK but working closely with international teams, you’ll play a central role in driving performance, innovation, and long‑term value across our portfolio.

As Portfolio Manager, you will oversee the strategic direction, performance, and profitability of an assigned insurance portfolio. You will lead product development, operational efficiency, and commercial growth, ensuring the portfolio delivers against its targets while maintaining regulatory compliance and exceptional customer value.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver clear, insightful performance reports to senior leadership, highlighting trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Establish, track, and optimise KPIs to ensure commercial and operational goals are achieved.
  • Develop and implement long‑term strategies that strengthen the portfolio’s market position and support organisational objectives.
  • Lead key projects and change initiatives that drive performance, transformation, and growth.
  • Lead the development and enhancement of insurance products, collaborating with R&D, underwriting, pricing, and other technical teams.
  • Oversee the full product lifecycle—from concept and design through launch, monitoring, and continuous optimisation.
  • Champion innovation and continuous improvement across the portfolio.
  • Ensure delivery of sales targets and maintain profitability across the book of business.
  • Identify efficiency gains and manage expenses to maximise margin and operational effectiveness.
  • Work closely with R&D, operations, marketing, and other internal teams to ensure seamless delivery of initiatives.
  • Partner with marketing to support lead generation and strengthen brand presence.
  • Coordinate effectively across multiple time zones to support global teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all products, processes, and activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal governance standards.
  • Maintain strong oversight of risk, controls, and quality assurance across the portfolio.
  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership and guidance to direct reports.
  • Identify training needs and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
  • Support the development of high‑performing teams across global markets.
Requirements
  • 3–5 years minimum of relevant industry experience.
  • Proven leadership and management experience, ideally within a global or multi‑market environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong initiative and a proactive approach to problem‑solving and decision‑making.
  • Solid understanding of insurance operations, including underwriting, pricing, product development, and portfolio performance management.
  • Demonstrated success as a portfolio manager or in a similar strategic insurance role.
  • Experience managing complex, cross‑functional teams across different time zones.
  • Strong project management and time‑management capabilities.
  • Experience in pet insurance is an advantage but not essential.
  • Ability to think globally and operate effectively in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.
We Offer

We offer a professional and supportive environment where your expertise contributes to the growth of an international pet insurance portfolio, with opportunities for long‑term career development through external training and professional learning. Our benefits include occupational sick pay, enhanced pension contributions, and a staff discount on our pet insurance products, ensuring you’re supported both professionally and personally.

We welcome applications from all talented professionals from all backgrounds to apply. As an equal opportunities employer, we are committed to fostering an inclusive workplace where everyone is treated fairly and without discrimination.
