A marine insurance firm in London seeks a Claims Process & Administration specialist with 2–4 years of experience in marine insurance claims and shipping law. Responsibilities include managing claims, ensuring compliance with maritime regulations, and providing legal support. Ideal candidates will possess strong negotiation and analytical skills, and be proficient in Microsoft Office. Manage the end-to-end claims process for Hull & Machinery, Protection & Indemnity (P&I), Cargo, Liability, and Crew Injury/Work Injury Compensation claims.
Assess claim validity by reviewing contracts, charter parties, incident reports, medical/legal documentation, and insurance policies.
Ensure timely notification and filing of claims with insurers, brokers, and P&I Clubs in accordance with policy terms.
Coordinate with surveyors, adjusters, and external legal counsel for claim assessments and negotiations.
Track claim progress and pursue recoveries to achieve fair and timely settlements.
Assist in reviewing insurance clauses in contracts, charter parties, and agreements.
Draft, review, and maintain claim-related correspondence, settlement agreements, and legal notices.
Ensure compliance with international maritime conventions (MLC, SOLAS, MARPOL), flag state regulations, and local laws.
Provide legal opinions and risk assessments on claim exposures.
Support litigation or arbitration cases relating to marine insurance disputes when required.
Provide claims analysis and legal input during annual insurance renewals.
Identify contractual and operational risks from a legal and insurance perspective.
Advise internal stakeholders (Operations, Crewing, Technical, Finance) on claim procedures and risk mitigation.
Contribute to loss prevention initiatives by highlighting recurring legal/claims issues.
Prepare claim status reports, trend analyses, and legal updates for management.
Act as the primary liaison with external parties including insurers, brokers, correspondents, and P&I Clubs.
Provide training and guidance to operations and vessel staff on incident reporting and insurance requirements.
2–4 years of relevant experience in marine insurance claims, shipping law, or maritime legal practice.
Knowledge of marine insurance (Hull & Machinery, P&I, Cargo, Crew, Liability) and maritime conventions.
Strong legal drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills.
Familiarity with charter parties, carriage of goods, and shipping contracts.
Excellent communication skills to engage with international stakeholders.
Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with claims or case management systems preferred.
