Job Description:

Role: Instrumentation, Control, and Automation Technician/Engineer

Location: Multiple Locations across Kent, Sussex, Hampshire

Contract Type: Permanent

Travel: Multiple sites in Southern England with a company supplied van

Hours: 38 hours

Are you ready to make a difference in the water & waste industry?

Join Southern Water's team to support water processing for public use. Maintain, repair, modify, configure, commission, calibrate, and install plant instrumentation including PLC and SCADA equipment, alarms, and telemetry across the region to ensure efficient operations.

This role involves occasional paid out-of-hours work and on-call scheduling.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Fault finding, calibration, testing, investigation, and programming in telemetry, PLC, SCADA, and measurement meters.
  • Implement process improvements via control system modifications and diagnose/fix complex faults.
  • Conduct planned maintenance and calibration to ensure reliability and accuracy.
  • Respond to instrumentation faults within Southern Water parameters.
  • Investigate instruments and process issues at wastewater plants, identify faults, and implement remedial actions.
  • Accurately complete documentation to maintain standards and compliance.
  • Implement control system modifications to improve processes or ensure compliance.
  • Coach and train team members to develop skills.

Skills and experience needed:

  • HNC in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or a time-served apprenticeship.
  • Experience in process-oriented industries such as water utility, petrochemical, electricity, or manufacturing.
  • Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with PLC and SCADA systems such as Allen Bradley, Mitsubishi, Wonderware InTouch/AVEVA.
  • Good documentation and regulatory compliance skills.
  • Collaborative with good communication skills.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and growth.
  • Full, current UK driving license.
