Job title: C&I Design Engineer

Job Type: Contract

IR35 Status: Inside IR35

Start date: As soon as possible, subject to clearance

Duration: 12+ Month (rolling contract)

Location: Preston, Hybrid – At least 3 days working from site (Preston)

Hours of work: 37-40 hours per week, Mon-Fri

About the Role

Looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our client's Project Design Team in Preston, Lancashire, as a C&I Design Engineer. The selected individual would become a key member of the Project Design Team, responsible for delivering CE&I Designs for small to medium-sized projects across the Nuclear Licensed Site. The role involves working alongside external design partners within the supply chain to support their engineering outputs, complementing the site-based design team.

Duties include overseeing all aspects of CE&I Engineering designs, from concept to detailed design, ensuring compliance with functional & nuclear safety requirements. The candidate should be familiar with relevant standards (UK and international), UK Office of Nuclear Regulation Nuclear Site Licence Conditions, and environmental requirements, ensuring designs meet these standards and project timelines. Typical work packages include development of CE&I designs, engineering drawings, calculations, specifications, governance documentation, commissioning, hand-over documentation, and engineering substantiation.

The role offers an opportunity to work in a dynamic environment, delivering design packages for new facilities, operational plants, laboratories, and infrastructure support departments.

Please note, the candidate must undergo enhanced security clearance prior to starting.

Skills And Competencies

Strong understanding of CE&I engineering principles within the nuclear or similar highly regulated industries.

Knowledge of project processes including design, project management, estimating, planning, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

Experience in coordinating and supervising CE&I designers, CAD operators, and junior engineers, providing technical guidance.

Proficiency with modern engineering tools such as AutoCAD, Inventor/3D Design Software, Vault, Trimble Amtech, Sistema, etc.

Education Level (Degree, Area of Study):

A minimum of a 2:1 BEng (Hons) degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related field.

OR

Significant experience in CE&I engineering with relevant qualifications.

Experience

Several years of project delivery and design experience in a CE&I environment.
