Job Description:

JOB PURPOSE

To provide instrumental tuition to pupils in schools and other EA educational establishments as required.

To contribute fully to the development and operation of centralised activities of EA Music

2. RESPONSIBLE TO

The post-holder will be responsible to the Head of EA Music

3. DUTIES

A tutor shall carry out the professional duties of a tutor under the reasonable direction of the Head of EA Music / Line manager

The post-holder will be required to:

(1)Provide tuition to pupils in schools and other EA Music Hubs as required.

·Teach, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to them

·Set work to be carried out by pupils

·Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of pupils

·Promote the general progress and well-being of pupils assigned to them

·Provide, in collaboration with the school, guidance and advice to pupils in the tutor's area of expertise

·In collaboration with the school, communicate and consult with parents about their child's musical development

·Plan and prepare lessons and programmes of study

(2)Maintain and develop good customer service relationships.

·Deal, efficiently and pleasantly, with enquiries from EA Music staff, pupils, parents, schools, outside organisations and the general public.

·Communicate and co-operate on matters connected with musical education with such persons or bodies outside the school as may be approved by the employing authority

4. ACT AS A MEMBER OF THE MUSIC SERVICE TEAM

·Participate in meetings as appropriate

·Participate in demonstration recitals as appropriate

·Participate, as required, in rehearsals and concert performances of EA Music ensembles in the evenings and/or at weekends.

·Assist, as required, with preparations for Parents’ Nights, Prize Night and other events

·Attend Parents' Night, Prize Night, Student Recitals and other events as required

·Participate, as required, in EA Music Courses, both residential and non-residential

·Ensure that all equipment is carefully maintained and safely operated

·Assist the Head of EA Music / Line Manager in such additional duties as may be required from time to time.

5. ASSESSMENTS AND REPORTS

·Provide or contribute to written assessments, reports and references relating to pupils, except in instances where to do so might be regarded as compromising the tutor's own position

·Prepare pupils for public examinations and assess pupils for the purpose of such examinations; record and report such assessments; and participate in arrangements for pupils’ presentation for and supervision during such examinations

6. STAFF DEVELOPMENT

Participate as required, in any scheme of staff development and performance review within EA Music, including:

(a) reviewing from time-to-time methods of teaching and programmes of work

(b) Participating in arrangements for training and professional development as an instrumental tutor

7. EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Advising and co-operating with the Head of EA Music / Line Manager as required in the preparation and development of courses of study, tutoring materials, programmes of work, methods of teaching and assessment, workshops, recitals and clinics.

8. PUPIL WELFARE AND DISCIPLINE

Maintaining good order and discipline among pupils assigned to them in accordance with the policies of the employing authority and safeguarding their health and safety, both when they are authorised to be on school premises and when engaged in authorised activities elsewhere.

9. ADMINISTRATION

Participating in administrative and organisational tasks relating to such duties as are described above including advice regarding the ordering and allocation of instruments and instrumental teaching resources in schools.

10. PUPIL REGISTRATION

Maintaining an official register of pupils and of their attendance for instrumental instruction.

The person appointed may be required to work evenings and/or at weekends.
