Job summary

A leading Design and Engineering Consultancy is seeking an Instrument Engineer for a long-term contract position in Manchester. The role, outside IR35, requires expertise in the energy sector. Responsibilities include providing technical input, ensuring regulatory compliance, and preparing specifications. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in relevant sectors and understands UK standards. Competitive rates of £50-£55 per hour are offered, with a hybrid working arrangement.

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in the Oil and Gas, Nuclear or Water sectors.
  • Strong understanding of design, installation, and industry practices.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation, standards, and explosive area requirements.
  • Familiar with CE marking and compliance (ATEX, PED, LVD, Machinery, EMC).
  • Awareness of risk management and HSE requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input and review for instrumentation in projects.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and procedures.
  • Prepare specs and requisitions for control systems.
  • Review supplier quotes and define installation scopes.
  • Support system development and functional safety.

Skills

Experience in Oil and Gas, Nuclear or Water sectors
Understanding of design and installation
Knowledge of UK legislation and standards
Familiarity with CE marking and compliance
