Position Summary

Instructors are responsible for preparing and delivering quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment to promote student success. They foster growth among students from diverse backgrounds and prepare them for the workforce or further education. This position emphasizes social justice within the division and the broader academic community.

Instruction will be face-to-face, teaching in Fall and Spring terms.

Essential Functions

  2. Instruction supporting actions include:
  • Preparing lesson plans aligned with competency-based learning, reflecting subject knowledge and student needs.
  • Delivering courses via multiple modes of instruction.
  • Differentiating instruction to engage all students in rigorous content.
  • Supporting student learning and success skills.
  • Utilizing diverse teaching methods, assessments, and technologies.
  • Using formative assessments to monitor and adjust instruction.
  • Implementing performance-based and summative assessments.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and programs to support learning.
  • Supporting student retention and success through engagement and referrals.
  • Classroom Management supporting actions include:
    • Using feedback for continuous improvement.
    • Providing a safe, positive learning environment and understanding student conduct policies.
    • Supporting student success through appropriate referrals.
    • Maintaining safe and functional labs, classrooms, and clinical spaces.
  • Professional and Academic Leadership supporting actions include:
    • Developing and revising curriculum reflecting diverse perspectives and industry standards.
    • Engaging in reflective practice and ongoing professional development.
    • Modeling College values and participating in initiatives and work groups.
    • Supporting departmental activities like orientation, advising, and recruitment.
    • Maintaining credentials and professional development per accreditation and licensure requirements.
    • Building partnerships with students, colleagues, supervisors, and the community.
    • Using college systems for record-keeping and curriculum development.
    • Using data to evaluate outcomes and improve programs.
    • Creating assessments for prior learning recognition.
  • Completing required training and maintaining skills for the position.
  • Supporting student success as a core value, with flexibility for additional duties as needed.
  • Qualifications

    Minimum Educational and Occupational Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree with two years (4,000 hours) verifiable HVACR experience, including at least one year in the last 5 years, OR
    • Associate's degree in HVACR, willing to obtain a Bachelor's within 5 years, with three and a half years (7,000 hours) experience, including recent experience, OR
    • Certified Journeyman in a related field, willing to upgrade degree, with 4.5 years (9,000 hours) experience, recent experience included, OR
    • Technical Diploma in HVACR, willing to upgrade degree, with similar experience requirements.

    Preferred Knowledge and Experience:

    • Teaching experience, AutoCAD or similar software, NATE certifications, BAS experience.

    Willingness to stay current through professional development is required.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's or Bachelor's degree in a related field, teaching experience.

    Certification/Licenses:

    • Eligible for or meeting WTCS Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements.
    Special Instructions/About Western

    This position reports to: Dean - Integrated Technology.

    Starting salary: $60,400 - $80,050 annually, based on education and experience.
