Job summary

Quantum Design Oxford is seeking an Installation and Service Engineer to install, service and repair our cryogenic instruments across Europe with occasional visits to the US. You will travel to customer sites, ensuring installations are safe, correct and meet customer expectations, and will report on site work promptly.

You will receive training on instrument operation and will train customers to ensure full understanding of usage.

Qualifications

• Physicist with experience of using Quantum Design or similar cryogenic instruments.
• Willingness to travel and stay away from home including weekends.

Responsibilities

• Install, service and repair QDO products at customer sites across Europe (and some US visits).
• Plan site visits, ensure safe and correct installations, and complete timely site reports.
• Monitor instruments after installation and provide training to customers on operation.
• Participate in training to understand instrument operation and support customers.

We are looking for an individual to join our Quantum Design Oxford (QDO) team as an Installation and Service Engineer. In this role you can expect to travel throughout Europe, with some visits to the US and other regions when required.

If you are a physicist who has experience of using Quantum Design or similar cryogenic instruments through your education or research and enjoy working in a hands‑on role then we would love to hear from you.

The opportunity

As an Installation and Service Engineer you can expect to travel to customer sites, where you will be responsible for the installation, service and repair of QDO products. You will be our representative with the customer, ensuring site visits are suitably planned for, products are installed safely, correctly and working to the customer’s satisfaction. Site reports must be completed in a timely fashion. You will receive training on how our instruments work, so that you can monitor them effectively as well as providing training to the customer to ensure that they have full understanding of how they operate.

About You

Whether you are applying as an experienced field engineer or from an education/research environment, it is preferred that you will have prior experience of working with cryogenics, ideally QDO instruments and have a strong background in physics.

A love of travel is a must, with the flexibility for overnight stays during the week and some weekends away from home. We also operate a weekend on call service for our key customers, so a willingness to cover every 4 weeks is essential.
