Job description

Business Unit: Cubic Transportation Systems Company Details: This role has the responsibility to produce design solutions for the layout and installation of Cubic equipment on customer premises, subject to final approval by the Senior Design Installer or Drawing Office Design Manager. For assigned projects, they will provide support to the Senior Installation Design Engineer and CAD operating staff in the production of Cubic working drawings for approval, installation, monitoring and reporting. Once a design solution has been developed the Installation Designer would support the Installation Team with any development, amendments, or queries regarding the solution once delivery has begun.

Depending upon the task, working hours could be during engineering hours (10pm – 6am) to support on the delivery of a project on site, or our normal office working hours (7:30am – 6:30pm). Please note, this role is predominately office based but there will be a requirement to visit rail / bus / tram stations and construction sites as well as attend client meetings. Job Details:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To review incoming variations of customer work contracts alongside the Drawing Office manager, to establish Design requirements and make an appropriate recommendation.
  • Responsible for maintaining the design standard of assigned CAD work and ensuring accurate and appropriate record-keeping documentation is maintained.
  • Delivering design requirements in line with internal CAD and design standards and industry best practices.
  • Produce full working drawings and weight loading calculations for the safe installation of Cubic equipment – ensuring the design meets the client requirements within set timescales and our internal standards.
  • Review and comment on project documentation, queries and formal Requests For Information (RFI) from the client in collaboration with the Drawing Office Manager and Senior Design Installers
  • Either on-site, or remotely, assist the installation department during a project cycle to overcome any design issues by giving advice, redirection or if necessary, redesigning a drawing to ensure the customer expectations, internal standards and delivery obligations are met
  • Attend site visits as required to assist Design Engineers with Design issues and to attend meetings to establish the final design for pricing & installation. Also, represent the department at internal and external meetings as required.
  • Comply with Cubic’s Quality Management System
  • Comply with Cubic Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies and procedures

Minimum Job Requirements:

Skills, knowledge, qualifications, and experience:

Essential:

  • Must have proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) Packages, specifically MicroStation Connect.
  • Able to collaborate on design projects and share knowledge and experience with other members of staff.
  • Previous experience working in a civil, mechanical, or electrical engineering environment. ONC or HNC qualifications are an advantage.
  • Experience in working with building service practitioners, such as Electrical and Mechanical Services
  • Familiar with using power tools, as drilling for testing floor slabs will be required.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team – working with both internal and external Project Managers, Project Engineers and Design Engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to adapt their style accordingly.
  • Ability to manage own time effectively to ensure adherence to programme delivery deadlines.
  • Confident Microsoft Office user – specifically Excel and Word.

Desirable:

  • Experience in the use of MicroStation 3D CAD & ProjectWise.
  • Working knowledge of electrical practices, such as 18th edition.
  • Degree – in one of the key building services Trades, (Electrical, Mechanical, Comms, Civils etc), or equivalent qualification/experience.
  • Experience of working within rail infrastructure
