Job Description

The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it is a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.

We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract and we are looking for an Inspections Lead to oversee the delivery of a programme of inspections, both statutory and contractual. Working closely with the Delivery Leads for each asset type, you will ensure that there is a clearly defined programme of inspection requirements for each asset type, in addition to clear data capture requirements and targets for inspection unit costs. The postholder will ensure that inspections are delivered to meet the required level of quality and achieve contractual and statutory deadlines, within unit cost targets. The post holder will also work with the Delivery Leads to determine the delivery strategy for each type of inspection, including delivery through internal CPS resources or outsourced to specialist subcontractors, based on a sound range of decision-making criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate high standards of visible safety leadership. Ensure that the required safety considerations are incorporated in the inspection process, and that behavioural safety is promoted throughout the teams, based on the principles of Making Safety Personal. Ensure that the safety culture within the team is strong.
  2. Ensure that when team members and subcontractors are put to work, this is undertaken in line with Business Management System requirements and good safety practice.
  3. Ensure all inspection activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. Prepare monthly reports on inspection delivery, presenting these to clients and senior leadership where required.
  4. Act as the primary point of contact for internal stakeholders and clients in relation to inspections. Escalate critical decisions and unresolved issues as required, ensuring timely and efficient resolution.
  5. Working with the Delivery leads, within the organisational matrix to meet project deadlines and quality standards, allowing for resilience and flexibility in procuring resources across internal staff and supply chain partners. Work closely with the Asset & Network Planning function to define the volumes of inspections required in any given planning period.
  6. Take full responsibility for all inspection delivery processes for all asset types. This includes scheduling, execution, and completion of these activities (such as ensuring method statements, classifying and informing stakeholders about defects, and data capture requirements are correct) timescales and quality, while leading on process improvements and efficiencies, enabling asset customers to deliver more effectively with accurate information.
  7. Lead a large team to deliver a portfolio of inspections to time and quality. Ensure the team, including supply chain inspectors, understand the delivery targets and expectations relevant to them and that productivity is optimised across the team. Ensure staff development, succession planning, and talent retention aims of the organisation are met in the inspection team.
  8. Monitor and control the performance against the in-year inspection budget, implementing corrective actions and improvements to maximize financial and operational performance.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in delivering large programmes of inspections across multiple asset types, or experience of planning and executing large volumes of similar planned work activities.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing a team, preferably within a matrix organisation.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and under pressure.
  • Familiarity with the industry's safety standards and regulations.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or relevant field OR suitable level of experience in industry
  • Certifications: Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification
  • SMSTS qualification
