Inpatient Mental Health Nurse

We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Band 5 Mental Health Inpatient Staff Nurse to join working age adult inpatient units.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive care to service users experiencing acute mental health issues. Your responsibilities will include administering medications, developing individualised care plans, and working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic patient care. Strong communication skills, a compassionate approach, and a commitment to improving patient outcomes are essential. The acute inpatient wards are split across two sites. Becklin Centre is made up of 4 acute wards (2 male and 2 female), along with a Crisis Assessment Unit. Newsam centre also has a male acute ward and a PICU.

We are recruiting for Staff Nurses for:

  • Ward 1 Becklin - Female Acute
  • Ward 5 Becklin - Female Acute
  • Ward 1 Newsam - Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Main duties of the job

As a Mental Health Staff Nurse on our unit, your main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Patient Care: Provide high-quality, compassionate care to female patients experiencing acute mental health crises. Administer medications, monitor patient progress, and respond to any changes in their condition.
  • Care Planning: Develop, implement, and regularly review individualised care plans in collaboration with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Therapeutic Interventions: Deliver therapeutic interventions, including one-on-one support and group therapy sessions, to help patients manage their mental health conditions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, ensuring all documentation meets legal and regulatory standards.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with doctors, psychologists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to provide holistic care. Participate in team meetings and case conferences.
  • Patient Education: Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and coping strategies.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure a safe environment for patients and staff by adhering to all health and safety regulations and protocols.
  • Professional Development: Engage in continuous professional development to stay current with best practices in mental health nursing.
