Job OverviewThe post holder will work as part of the Inpatient Booking Team, ensuring that theatre lists are planned in accordance with agreed service guidelines, national waiting times, and clinical targets. They will liaise directly with medical staff, theatre colleagues, and patients to agree on admission dates, arrange pre-operative assessments, and ensure bed capacity to provide a seamless patient journey.
Main duties of the job- The post holder is expected to plan and prioritize workload using their own initiative, working within agreed guidelines and standard operating procedures to support decision-making.
- Operate and maintain an efficient planning service for inpatient or day-case surgery booking, ensuring clinical priorities are maintained and recorded appropriately within the PAS system. Patients should be scheduled according to their clinical priority (urgent, cancer, or routine) and within the national 18-week referral-to-treatment target.
- Ensure planned lists are agreed with surgeons when appropriate, considering allergies, alerts, and pre-operative assessment status to maintain correct patient list order.
- Arrange pre-operative assessments for patients, ensuring they are completed timely to maximize operational efficiency.
