We work with companies across all sectors, most notably manufacturing, engineering, life sciences, software and digital technologies to assist them to identify and prepare successful tax relief claims. The variety of projects and impressive client list will challenge you every day, helping you expand your capabilities and grow professionally.

As an Associate Director within the Innovation Reliefs Software team, you will work in an actively growing, specialist Innovation Reliefs tax team at RSM. The role involves working directly with the IT specialists in many different businesses who are at the forefront of their technology, whilst also experiencing a role in a global professional services firm. This role can be based from any of our Central or Scotland region offices (Birmingham, Nottingham, Leicester, Milton Keynes, Cambridge, Edinburgh or Glasgow)

You'll make an impact by:

  • Developing claim methodologies and manage the preparation of R&D tax relief claims for submission to HMRC.
  • Leading interviews with clients' technical and finance teams to advise on the R&D tax relief and to assist with identification of qualifying R&D activities and expenditure.
  • Demonstrating your expertise in writing technical descriptions of the client's projects to include in the reports.
  • Identifying, leading on, and progressing business development opportunities, pitching for work with both new and existing clients.
  • Leading as a point of contact on specific R&D software projects.
  • Utilising your existing computer science or developer skills to assist junior members of the team with their personal development.

What we are looking for:

Are you someone who thrives on variety, loves learning new things, and enjoys connecting with people? If you can spot inefficiencies in everyday life and are passionate about making improvements, this role is perfect for you!

We value diverse experiences and perspectives. Here's what we're looking for in our ideal candidate:
  • In-depth knowledge of computer science and software development from prior experience working in the software / IT industry.
  • Good level of tax technical knowledge of the UK's R&D tax incentives.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in preparing and submitting R&D tax relief claims in the sector.
  • Clear and concise writing style.
  • Experience in responding to HMRC enquiries.

What we can offer you:

We recognise that our people are our most important assets. That's why we offer a flexible reward and benefits package that will help you have fulfilling experience, both in and out of work.
  • 27 Days Holiday (with the option of purchasing additional days).
  • Hybrid working
  • Lifestyle, Health, and Wellbeing including financial wellbeing benefits such as financial tools, electric car scheme and access to a virtual GP.
  • Individual healthcare cover.
  • Access to a suite of 300+ courses on demand developed by our inhouse Talent Development team
