Responsibilities:

  • Managing R&D engagements, including financial management, staffing, risk procedures, deliverables, and client relationships.
  • Meeting clients and potential clients to explain our services.
  • Determining scope of work and budget, proposing fee quotes.
  • Developing claim methodologies and managing R&D tax relief claims for HMRC.
  • Leading interviews with clients’ technical and finance teams to identify qualifying activities and expenditures.
  • Writing and editing technical descriptions for HMRC reports.
  • Preparing documentation supporting R&D claims based on UK guidelines.
  • Building internal and external networks.
  • Identifying and progressing business development opportunities.
  • Liaising with HMRC on R&D claims inquiries.
  • Acting as a point of contact for R&D projects.
  • Reviewing work by junior staff for accuracy and quality.
  • Maintaining tax quality standards.
  • Updating the team on project progress and issues.
  • Communicating confidently with firm leadership.
  • Adapting approaches to meet client needs while maintaining professionalism.
  • Staying informed about firm services and publications to add value and identify new opportunities.

About the ideal candidate

The candidate should have in-depth knowledge of computer science and software development, with experience in R&D and UK tax incentives.

  • Degree or postgraduate qualification in Computer Science or similar.
  • Experience in the software/IT industry.
  • Strong UK R&D tax incentives knowledge.
  • Experience preparing and submitting R&D claims.
  • Clear, concise writing skills.
  • Experience responding to HMRC enquiries.
