Job summary

British Engineering Services Group is seeking a Technical Estimator for a nationwide, hybrid role based in the UK. The position involves home-based work with office support in Manchester or Ilkeston. A salary up to £48,000 is offered, with pension, annual pay review and generous holidays.

The role requires preparing estimates, managing bids, and coordinating with clients and suppliers to ensure competitive quotes and smooth handovers upon contract award.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in Engineering/Surveying/Project Management or Bridge Inspection competency (e.g. BICS/STE4/STE7).
• Hold IOSH Managing Safely qualification.
• Previous experience in engineering/examining or project management in the infrastructure industry.
• Experienced and competent in the use of Microsoft Excel.
• Experience of leading teams and managing complex programmes of work across structural inspections, investigations and surveys.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates, tenders, quotations and bids in line with statutory, client and XEIAD standards.
• Develop risk registers, project programmes and operational plans to inform labour, plant and material costs.
• Engage with operational teams, clients and the supply chain to obtain competitive subcontractor quotes.
• Carry out pre‑tender planning, desktop studies, site visits and supplier engagement.
• Present commercial estimates at bid reviews, providing clear insight and recommendations.
• Ensure that bid management data on our systems is accurately recorded and updated when required.
• Support effective handovers to the operational team following award of a contract.
