A local government organization in Windsor is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Systems Specialist to manage their virtualization and container-based infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in Proxmox, Docker, and TrueNAS. About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled Infrastructure Systems Specialist to support, maintain, and expand our virtualization and container-based infrastructure. This role is ideal for someone who is confident working with Proxmox, Docker (via Portainer), and TrueNAS, and is passionate about building resilient systems, thorough documentation, and collaborative knowledge sharing.
You will play a critical role in supporting the transition and stability of our newly implemented infrastructure, ensuring redundancy of knowledge across the team, and minimizing dependency on single-person ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
• Administer and maintain Proxmox VE virtual environments
• Manage Docker containers using Portainer, including network, storage, and resource management
• Configure and maintain TrueNAS for scalable storage solutions
• Collaborate with team leads to document system architecture, setup processes, and operational runbooks
• Troubleshoot performance issues, outages, and integration problems across the stack
• Assist with onboarding and knowledge transfer to ensure team-wide understanding of systems
• Participate in planning and implementing improvements to scalability, security, and monitoring
• Act as a key support resource during the Scarborough setup phase and beyond
Required Skills and Experience
Proven experience with:
• Proxmox VE administration
• Docker container management (Portainer interface a plus)
• TrueNAS (Core or Scale) configuration and maintenance
• Strong understanding of virtualization, networking, and storage systems
• Familiarity with Linux system administration
• Comfortable with writing and organizing technical documentation
• Ability to work independently and communicate technical concepts clearly to non-experts
Nice to Have:
• Experience with Ansible, GitOps, or infrastructure-as-code tools
• Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery strategies in virtualized environments
• Understanding of security best practices for self-hosted environments
• Prior experience helping teams transition to new infrastructure setups
