Job description

We have an opportunity for a permanent Infrastructure Specialist to join our IT Department. The successful candidate will report to the Infrastructure Operations Manager and will be responsible for planning, designing, developing, and launching efficient operational systems to support core organisational functions. This includes all IT projects, continual service improvement, and BAU activities.

The ideal candidate will possess proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve systems issues to maximize the benefits of the IT environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the strategic design and implementation of the core infrastructure to ensure high availability, and manage service improvement plans.
  • Provide 3rd line IT support, resolving incidents escalated from the Service Desk and other support teams within agreed timescales.
  • Assist in planning, designing, developing, and deploying new services and enhancements to existing services.
  • Own and manage systems used for monitoring, backups, disaster recovery, and security patching.
  • Ensure compatibility and interoperability of computing systems.
  • Review and analyze the effectiveness of existing systems and develop improvement strategies.
  • Research hardware and software products to support purchasing and service improvement activities.
  • Assist in designing and implementing strategic and tactical plans for managing and maintaining systems and software.
  • Develop, document, and enforce policies and procedures for system and software standardization.
  • Maintain the availability of production systems to meet service levels.
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks and actions as required.
  • Display open collaboration and communication aligned with Agile and DevOps practices.
  • Engage in continuous self-development through training and learning opportunities.
  • Support and maintain server components within the environment.
  • Collaborate with the IT Program Manager on the annual IT Maintenance program.
Required Skills and Experience

The successful candidate must have strong technical skills and knowledge of technologies including Windows Server, Active Directory/Entra ID, and ideally SQL Server or Snowflake. Experience with Microsoft 365, AWS, Azure, VMware, Cisco UCS, SAN storage solutions, and scripting languages like PowerShell, Python, YAML, and tools such as Terraform and Ansible is preferred.

Knowledge of DevOps principles, Agile, Kanban, ITIL v3/4, and relevant certifications would be advantageous. Strong interpersonal, communication, documentation skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team are essential. The role involves some on-call, weekend work, and shift-based hours.
