Job summary

Osborne Clarke is seeking a Senior Knowledge Lawyer to provide dedicated Knowledge support to the Projects Team with a focus on Infrastructure. You will work with the Projects Senior Knowledge Lawyer and the PREF Knowledge Team to deliver knowledge solutions, training, and client-facing materials.

The role supports education, energy, transport and other infrastructure matters, with opportunities to pilot AI tools and develop precedent documents.

Role profile

We are looking for a Senior Knowledge Lawyer to provide dedicated Knowledge support for our highly regarded Projects Team, with a core focus on our Infrastructure specialism.

Our Projects Team

Our Projects Team is made up of a number of specialists operating across Infrastructure, Energy, Project Finance and Construction. The Team advises on some of the most significant and technically complex projects in the market, working closely with clients across both the public and private sectors.The Team has experience of advising clients across the range of project roles - public sector, lead consortia, supply chain and senior lenders. We advise through the whole lifecycle of transactions, before and after financial close, and both in the primary and secondary markets. Our Projects Team sits within the PREF practice group, which brings together our Projects, Real Estate and Debt Finance specialisms.

The Opportunity

The principal purpose of this role is to provide dynamic, technically excellent, business and client-focused knowledge support to the Projects Team with a core focus on our Infrastructure specialism. Our Infrastructure Team has a wide breadth of experience across Infrastructure projects including education, waste, energy, transport, defence, ICT, healthcare, blue light, housing and regeneration projects. You will work closely with our Projects Senior Knowledge Lawyer (a Construction specialist) the Projects Partners, the Head of PREF Knowledge and other members of the Knowledge Team as well as Sales and Marketing professionals.

The role requires technical expertise in, and experience of, Infrastructure projects, however previous Knowledge Lawyer experience is not essential. Support and mentoring will be available from the Head of PREF Knowledge and from other senior members of the Knowledge Team.

This role is being offered on a part-time basis and can be based out of our Bristol or London office. You will benefit from the Firm's connected working policy.

Key Responsibilities

Working closely with the Projects Partners, the Projects Senior Knowledge Lawyer and the wider PREF Knowledge Team, you will build and deliver excellent Knowledge support for the Projects Team, with particular emphasis on our Infrastructure specialism. Here are some examples of what you should expect to be doing in this role:

• Keeping the Infrastructure Team up-to-date on legal and regulatory changes, including producing reader-friendly internal updates on relevant developments.
• Delivering and facilitating legal training and know-how sharing.
• Proactively identifying, evaluating and piloting AI tools relevant to Infrastructure and Projects work (including contract analysis, legal research, drafting assistance and document automation tools); acting as the primary point of contact within the Team for questions about AI capabilities and best practice.
• Designing and delivering practical training sessions to help fee earners build confidence and proficiency with the Firm's AI toolkit, including sharing real-world use cases drawn from Infrastructure and Projects matters.
• Maintaining and expanding a technically excellent collection of precedent documents.
• Assisting fee earner upskilling into developing and growth areas of legal and business focus.
• Driving the preparation and delivery of client-facing presentations, seminars and workshops, including preparation of presentation content for fee earner speakers.
• Creating and driving a consistent Client Knowledge offering – including insights, webinars and horizon scanning – as part of the Team's overall business development activities.
• Dealing with queries from lawyers across the firm regarding current law and practice in the Projects space.
• Leading or contributing to the Team's response (where relevant) to government consultations on new or amended legislation relevant to Projects and Infrastructure.

Skills and Experience

• You will have strong technical capability in relation to a relevant area of Projects law and the legal and regulatory frameworks relevant to the Infrastructure Team's work
• Due to the technical nature of the work, we are looking for someone who is legally qualified with a solid foundation of post-qualification experience in a relevant practice area. You may currently be a fee-earning lawyer in private practice or working within the legal team of a business or in a knowledge role elsewhere, or returning to work after a career break.
• You will have a genuine interest in how AI tools can transform legal practice, and a willingness to experiment, learn and share that knowledge with colleagues. Prior hands-on experience with AI legal tools would be an advantage, though not essential.
• You will have an ability to present information clearly and confidently to internal and external audiences – both in writing and when speaking.
• You will be a pro-active self-starter with excellent organisational skills. You will be able to form an accurate technical understanding of developments and, generally, display a high level of technical accuracy in your work. You will be good at collaborating with other specialists in your field and working as part of a cross-disciplinary team where needed.
