About the role

We are looking for a Technology Portfolio Programme Manager to join the Infrastructure Team. This team is responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of technology initiatives that support Tesco's vision and strategy across the Group. The role focuses on governance to ensure that the portfolio drives our strategic and business goals efficiently, effectively, and sustainably. The role will work towards standardising the way the portfolio is controlled, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and effective levels of governance are in place.

You will be responsible for

  • Setting up and facilitating Programme Governance meetings to approve and manage the delivery of the Portfolio Plan. Ensuring a consistent approach to how teams record and monitor all workstream risks, issues, and dependencies, ensuring all are identified and tracked appropriately.
  • Working across Infrastructure Teams and with Senior Stakeholders to prepare for and manage Governance Meetings. Influencing, presenting, and engaging with a wide variety of Senior Stakeholders, leveraging your political nous.

You will also:

  • Prepare regular status reports, executive summaries, and presentations to supervise delivery progress. Operate within best-practice portfolio management frameworks, knowing when to escalate or de-escalate your approach.
  • Be highly effective at identifying and mitigating risks and driving actions accordingly. Ensure dependencies are effectively managed and call out risks where vital.
  • Identify constraints within the portfolio, collaborate with the STPM to evaluate potential solutions, and determine the support required to resolve them.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Working with the STPMs to communicate and maintain consistent programme, workstream, and project management standards, guidance, and templates.
  • Identifying improvements to portfolio management practices and engaging with the Senior Leadership Team to implement them.
  • Working with the central technology team, providing updates on Tech Excellence and Strategic objectives.

You should be:

  • Agile in your approach, adaptable to changing business needs.
  • Knowledgeable and passionate about your work, willing to share that knowledge.

You will need:

  • Portfolio/Programme/Project management experience in planning and delivery.
  • Strong financial competence and numerical skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with senior stakeholders.
  • Resilience and tenacity.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities effectively.
