Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an Infrastructure Engineer with a passion for drainage-led design to join a civil and structural engineering consultancy. You will work across residential, industrial, energy, and specialist projects, with ownership from site appraisals to detailed design.

This role offers flexible hybrid working, strong progression to senior and chartered levels, and access to a supportive team with exposure to diverse projects and cutting-edge software.

Qualifications

• Experience as an Infrastructure or Civil Engineer within a consultancy environment.
• Strong grounding in drainage principles, particularly private drainage and S104 agreements.
• Working knowledge of highway design standards, especially for private developments.
• Ability to work independently under senior technical guidance.
• Understanding of project budgets and deliverables.
• Residential drainage and external works experience is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Design drainage networks in plan and modeled form using Flow and Infodrainage.
• Produce private drainage designs, including Section 104 agreements.
• Support highways design, including private roads, car parks and access roads; 3D highway designs.
• Deliver infrastructure designs across S38, S104, S278 and external works.
• Assist with site appraisals, assessing drainage and level feasibility early.
• Manage own time/workload in line with budgets and fees; collaborate with planners and clients.

Infrastructure Engineer

Our client is a highly regarded and growing civil and structural engineering consultancy, looking to strengthen this Civil Engineering department, which currently consists of a well-balanced team. The role offers full lifecycle involvement, from initial site appraisals through to planning and detailed design, giving you real ownership and visibility across projects.

As an Infrastructure Engineer, you'll play a key role in the delivery of development-led infrastructure schemes, with a strong emphasis on drainage design. Drainage experience is particularly important, as most projects require modelling and detailed network design.

You’ll be trusted to manage your own workload while working closely with Senior and Principal Engineers, contributing to high-quality, commercially aware design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design drainage networks in both plan and fully modelled form using Flow and/or Infodrainage
• Produce private drainage designs, including Section 104 agreements
• Support and deliver highways design, including:
  • Private road layouts, car parks, and access roads
  • 3D highway designs with long sections and cross sections
• Deliver infrastructure designs across:
  • S38, S104, S278
  • Private drainage, external works, and cut & fill analysis
• Assist with site appraisals, assessing drainage and level feasibility at early stages
• Manage your own time and workload in line with project budgets and fee allocations
• Collaborate with planners, clients, and external stakeholders to support successful planning and technical approvals

About You

• Experience as an Infrastructure or Civil Engineer within a consultancy environment
• Strong grounding in drainage principles, particularly private drainage and S104 agreements
• Working knowledge of highway design standards, especially for private developments
• Comfortable producing designs independently while working under senior technical guidance
• Able to manage your own workload and understand project budgets and deliverables
• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Experience in residential drainage and external works design is highly desirable, but exposure to other sectors will naturally develop within the role
