Job summary

HartleyCo is an AI-driven startup in London seeking an Infrastructure Engineer who will own the platform and drive reliability, security, and scalability. You will work directly with the founders to shape the foundation the product and AI engineers ship on, managing cloud infra end-to-end.

The role emphasizes hands-on work with GCP (AWS also valued), Terraform, containers, CI/CD, and production observability, supporting production AI workloads while keeping costs in check.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure (GCP, AWS).
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform or similar tools.
• Experience with containers, CI/CD, and production observability.
• Production PostgreSQL in a scalable environment.
• Security awareness with enterprise compliance (SOC 2/ISO 27001).
• Startup/small-team infra ownership and pragmatic problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Own cloud infrastructure end-to-end, including networking, environments, deployments and CI/CD.
• Build and maintain infrastructure as code.
• Improve reliability, monitoring, alerting and incident response.
• Lead on security and compliance for large enterprise customers.
• Support production AI workloads (LLM APIs, queues, latency, cost).
• Keep infrastructure simple, cost-effective and scalable as usage grows.

Infrastructure Engineer | £100,000 to £150,000 + equity | Full-time

About the company

A YC-backed AI startup, also backed by leading European VCs, that has grown 10x in the last year. They process large volumes of sensitive data for major enterprise customers, using AI agents to automate work that used to take teams of people days. The engineering team is small, senior and moves quickly.

The role

You’ll be the person who owns the infrastructure. There’s no platform team to hand things off to: you’ll make the key decisions on how the platform scales, keep it reliable and secure, and give the product and AI engineers a foundation they can ship on quickly. You’ll work directly with the founders and have a real say in how the company builds.

What you’ll be doing

• Owning cloud infrastructure end to end, from networking and environments to deployments and CI/CD
• Building and maintaining infrastructure as code
• Improving reliability, monitoring, alerting and incident response
• Leading on security and compliance as the company takes on larger enterprise customers
• Supporting production AI workloads, including LLM APIs, queues, latency and cost
• Keeping things simple, pragmatic and cost-effective as usage grows

What they’re looking for

• Strong hands-on experience with GCP (AWS also valued)
• Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools
• Experience with containers, CI/CD and production observability
• Comfortable supporting Node.js/TypeScript services and PostgreSQL in production
• Security-minded, with exposure to compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001 a plus
• Has owned infrastructure in a startup or small team, and prefers pragmatic solutions to over-engineering
