The role will nominally be based out of Birmingham, but candidates will be considered in line with our agile / hybrid working policy. The team works on projects across all of our global business areas – Mobility, Places and Resilience – in a wide variety of market sectors including strategic housing & residential, commercial & employment, transport hubs and major transport (rail and highways) projects. We are actively developing new client relationships within the ports and logistics sector and would welcome applications from candidates with previous experience in these sectors. We are seeking a career‑minded Engineer with ambition to progress their career further and who has gained work experience in the design of infrastructure and drainage solutions for development infrastructure projects. We would provide support in achieving Chartered / Incorporated status through an ICE training agreement.

Role Accountabilities

Reporting to the Associate Technical Director/Principal Engineer, you will have a keenness and willingness to learn and develop new engineering skills to support the successful delivery of infrastructure, highways and drainage projects.

  • Project duties will include providing engineering design support within the Enabling Infrastructure team and providing technical advice.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings and calculations for development‑related infrastructure design commissions, including surface water, foul water, highways and utilities design, to meet the client’s requirements and adoptable standards, taking responsibility for technical output.
  • Support the delivery of projects including quality assurance and client feedback and ensuring effective communication of any changes or modifications.
  • Work in collaboration with other design disciplines and contractor D&B teams to ensure the integrity of the overall design.
  • Work in accordance with our Business Management processes and procedures.
  • Assist in achieving wider business goals for positive safety, health, quality, and sustainability outcomes.
  • Have a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering.

  • Knowledge of SuDS, SfA, DMRB, and local authority design standards.
  • Experience preparing initial feasibility and site appraisal studies, working as part of a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver successful planning applications.
  • Experience of infrastructure design, preferably in the use of Autodesk Civil3D for infrastructure design and Microdrainage/Infodrainage for drainage design.
  • Awareness of design delivery to BIM protocols.
  • Be self‑motivated with good people and interpersonal skills to influence outcomes.
  • Have a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Civil Engineering.
  • Made positive progress toward achieving Chartered or Incorporated status.
