Infrastructure Architect (VMware Specialist) - DV Clearance Mandatory

Contract Duration: 6 months (potential extension)

Start date: Urgent requirement - ASAP

Location: Basingstoke

Job Type: Contractor, Fully Onsite

Clearance Required: DV Clearance (Active DV clearance is mandatory; please do not apply if not already in place)

Rate: £600pd inside IR35

We are seeking a dedicated VMware Specialist to join our client and play a pivotal role in developing an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) platform using advanced VMware technologies. This is a new role, requiring a specialist who can design, deploy, and optimise virtualised environments to meet our client's specific needs.

Day-to-day responsibilities:
  1. Design and implement VMware-based IaaS solutions tailored to client requirements and industry best practices.
  2. Configure and optimise VMware vRealize Orchestrator (VRO) workflows to automate provisioning, deployment, and management tasks.
  3. Manage VMware Cloud Director (VCD) instances, including setting up resource pools, organizations, virtual data centers, and networking.
  4. Implement and configure NSX-T for software-defined networking and security within the virtualised environment.
  5. Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to integrate VMware solutions with existing systems and technologies.
  6. Provide technical expertise and support during testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues related to VMware infrastructure.
  7. Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation, including architectural diagrams, standard operating procedures, and technical guides.
  8. Stay abreast of emerging VMware technologies, trends, and best practices to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing VMware-based virtualisation solutions, focusing on vRealize Orchestrator (VRO), VMware Cloud Director (VCD), and NSX-T.
  • In-depth knowledge of virtualisation concepts, VMware vSphere architecture, and related technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with scripting (e.g., PowerShell, Python) for automation and customisation of VMware environments.
  • Strong understanding of software-defined networking (SDN) principles and experience with NSX-T configuration and management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative Agile team environment and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • VMware certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or VMware Certified Advanced Professional (VCAP) are highly desirable.
