Job Description:

Infrastructure Architect with a deep understanding of SQL Server

Location: Basingstoke (permanent, full-time onsite)

Salary: £75 - £80k plus 10% bonus, 10% DV allowance, and £6k car allowance

Total package: up to £102K

Security Clearance: Candidates must be willing and eligible to go through SC and DV security clearance for this role.

As a SQL-focused Infrastructure Architect, you will own the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure work packages — from initial design and prototyping to piloting, production deployment, and ongoing evolution.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design and deliver infrastructure work packages that meet both functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Collaborate within an Agile team, contributing to shared challenges and continuous cross-training.
  • Develop repeatable unit tests to validate system behaviour under expected and unexpected conditions.
  • Maintain accurate support and design documentation to aid operational teams and users.
  • Respond to evolving user requirements by delivering ongoing improvements and enhancements.

Skills and Experience:

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL Server — including design, configuration, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills across infrastructure and database environments.
  • Ability to script and automate infrastructure configurations and tests.
  • Excellent documentation and communication skills.
  • Experience with any of the following would be an added advantage: Microsoft Windows Systems Administration in enterprise settings, Group Policy Objects (GPO), Windows Installer, Powershell cmdlets.
