Job Details

Salary: £36,650

Hours: Full Time / Part Time (Min 0.8 FTE)

Contract Type: Open Ended

Location: Polaris House, Swindon (Hybrid working available)

About the Role

The Information Governance Group supports UKRI in meeting its statutory responsibilities under data protection, freedom of information, and environmental information regulations legislation.

As one of a number of Information Rights Managers, you will work with Senior Information Rights Managers to deliver timely, high-quality responses to FOIA/EIR requests or data protection subject rights requests, provide advice on data protection enquiries, and support data protection incident investigations.

You will manage information rights requests, assess requests, gather information, and determine applicable exemptions. You will be the first point of contact with requesters and relevant business areas, supporting the embedding of good information governance and ensuring compliance with policies and guidance. A thorough understanding of freedom of information and data protection legislation is essential.

You will also ensure strong linkages between the Information Governance Group and UKRI councils and business areas.

Responsibilities
  • Respond to data subject rights requests and support Senior Information Rights Managers with complex requests.
  • Respond to FOIA and Environmental Information Regulation requests, supporting the handling of complex cases.
  • Determine exemption applicability, applying the public interest test where appropriate.
  • Estimate costs according to FOI regulations where relevant.
  • Provide advice on information rights issues, including data protection by design and data sharing.
  • Work with senior managers to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Raise awareness through inductions, training, and workshops.
  • Stay updated on best practices and legislative developments, sharing knowledge with the team.
  • Support data protection incident investigations.
  • Contribute to policy and procedure updates.
  • Perform any other relevant tasks.
About You
  • Professional qualification in freedom of information/data protection.
  • Experience working with information rights legislation in a complex organization.
  • Understanding of FOI and data protection laws.
  • Ability to interpret legislation and guidance, applying exemptions effectively.
  • Effective communication and team working skills.
  • Ability to provide clear advice on legal, regulatory, and policy issues.
  • Strong written skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work proactively.
  • Flexible approach to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Office 365 and redaction software.
  • Analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
