Job description

The Government Property Agency (GPA) is the largest property holder in government, with more than £2.1 billion in property assets and over 55% of the government’s office estate.

We are transforming the way the Civil Service works by creating great places to work, leading the largest commercial office programme in the UK, working towards halving carbon emissions from government offices, and achieving greater value for taxpayers. We are looking for innovative, solutions-focused people to join our team.

Representing the best covenant in the UK – His Majesty’s Government – we are leading significant transformational programmes such as the Government Hubs Programme, Whitehall Campus Programme, and Net Zero Programme. We also deliver cost-effective property services including asset management, lifecycle replacement, and workplace services.

Innovation and progress underpin our behaviors. We foster a culture of lifelong learning, where curiosity and self-improvement are encouraged. Our four core values are at the heart of everything we do, shaping our culture and guiding how we work, lead, and grow together:

  • Striving for excellence - We always aim to deliver great results.
  • Empowering through respect - We insist on fair treatment for all, always.
  • Acting with integrity - We consistently do the right thing.
  • Succeeding together - We rely on each other to achieve success.

Join our dynamic and diverse team that leads with purpose, improving sustainability, nurturing social value, driving inclusivity and flexibility, and kickstarting economic growth. We are driven by purpose, and you can be part of it too: where you make a meaningful impact; where you influence; where your voice really matters; where you help to shape our future direction.

The GPA is committed to representing the communities we serve by making Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion part of everything we do.

To ensure that we are always recruiting and retaining a diverse mix of talent, we are particularly inviting applications from candidates who are disabled, ethnically or gender diverse, and people who identify as being part of the LGBTQ+ community.

GPA’s Capital Projects team delivers major construction and change projects on behalf of the Agency under two main programmes: the Government Hubs Programme and the Whitehall Campus Programme.

This role supports the Government's agenda to level up the regions by relocating 22,000 Civil Servant roles out of London under the Places for Growth agenda. The Information Management Lead will play a key role in ensuring all involved in Capital Projects follow the correct standards and requirements for buildings’ information management from design to operation. The role involves developing, implementing, and reviewing information management processes and governance, including strategy and compliance with statutory obligations.

The role will ensure best practices are implemented in the acquisition, management, and organization of information, facilitating access to maximize its exploitation and re-use.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the role are to:

  • Lead the development and implementation of information management governance and strategy for the GPA Capital Projects area, managing a small team.
  • Manage the information lifecycle in systems, ensuring policies are implemented.
  • Champion the corporate platform as the Records Management tool.
  • Demonstrate systems and processes to stakeholders, engaging with them to improve ways of working and ensure legal obligations are met.
  • Use strategic thinking to resolve operational issues while maintaining strategic delivery.
  • Support an environment of initiative and change management, encouraging ideas that add value.
  • Understand how information is processed and used within the organization and its relation to other assets and digital continuity.
  • Adhere to policy and legislation on information sharing, supporting appropriate sharing and advising on information flow with external parties.
  • Manage corporate collaboration and document storage spaces, improving user experience through engagement.
  • Manage the disposal of non-record information according to retention policies.
