Job summary

The Royal Veterinary College (RVC) in Hatfield is seeking an Information Governance Project Officer to lead a key initiative to strengthen classification, retention and governance of information across the institution.

Based at Hawkshead Campus with hybrid working, the role reports to the University Secretary and will develop tools, processes and a ROPA, retention schedules and policy database to support long-term compliant information management within the university.

Qualifications

• This role requires experience in information governance, data protection or compliance-related processes.
• Good working knowledge of UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018 and FOI Act 2000.
• Experience gathering information from multiple stakeholders and documenting processes.
• Experience developing reports, policies, guidance documents or governance materials.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills with ability to manage priorities.

Responsibilities

• Developing a comprehensive Record of Processing Activities (ROPA) to support UK GDPR.
• Leading data mapping activities and developing classifications across the institution.
• Creating and implementing a records retention schedule using best practice.
• Maintaining a central database of policies, review dates and owners.
• Engaging with data owners and stakeholders to gather information.
• Producing reports and process documentation to support outputs.
• Delivering training and awareness activities on information governance.
• Monitoring developments in information governance and advising on implications.
