The primary function of the Information Architect role is to work as part of the Corporate Investment Bank Information Architecture team to support the delivery, maintenance, and adoption of standards, components, processes, and tools that serve Data Management. This involves collaboration with other teams across Corporate Investment Bank Technology, as well as partnerships with Global Technology and other Lines of Business.
This role is suitable for individuals with a background in Software Engineering, Technical Architecture, or Data Analytics who wish to specialize in Information Architecture, Data Management, and Governance. The role involves developing standards, tools, and processes to advance modern and innovative engineering methods.
Information Architecture and Data Management are critical for achieving business objectives, including reducing costs, lowering risks, increasing performance, and enhancing transparency of business performance and client satisfaction. Key objectives include:
- Create and maintain accurate, complete, and consistent governed Data Models with lineage and metadata for traceability.
- Collaborate on creating, maintaining, governing, and utilizing Controlled Vocabularies and Data Sourcing Contracts with Business Partners and the Chief Data Office.
- Engage with Software Development teams to determine requirements for Model Engineering solutions, and build prototypes and pilots.
- Work with development teams to use, develop, and improve Information Architecture standards, tools, and processes.
- Standardize and simplify Data and Information Architecture by rationalizing models, interfaces, and databases.
- Deliver Data Policy and Standards across the firm and sub-lines of business.
- Contribute to the Data Strategy by moving applications towards strategic data sourcing and standardization.
- Standardize and innovate Operational and Analytical Data Management according to Reference Architectures and Operating Models.
You will collaborate with the larger Information Architecture team to develop and deliver projects aligned with these objectives. The goal is to become a Subject Matter Expert in Data and Information Architecture and Management, working closely with business experts, project teams, and standards bodies to ensure design and implementation are aligned with modern engineering practices. Collaboration with firm-wide and core architecture teams on standards and tooling around Data Lineage, Lifecycle Management, Quality Monitoring, and Metadata Management is also essential.
Experience & Knowledge Essential
- Experience with Data Modelling and Architecture tools such as ERwin, Power Designer, Magic Draw, UML tools, or IDEs like Eclipse.
- An interest in data and understanding its value when properly governed and organized.
- Knowledge of Data Management technologies like Relational and Columnar Databases, Data Integration (ETL), or API development.
- Familiarity with data formats such as JSON, XML, and binary formats like Avro or Google Protocol Buffers.
- Experience working with business and technical teams to develop Model Engineering solutions.
- Strong communication skills across multiple channels.
- Knowledge of Programming Language Design and Implementation.
- Understanding of core Information Architecture capabilities such as Reference Data Management, Data Quality, Metadata Management, Data Taxonomy, Security, and Protection.
- Knowledge of Financial Services, especially Wholesale and Investment Banking.
- Experience with Data Standards like SWIFT, FIX, or FpML.
- TOGAF and/or DAMA certification.
- Knowledge of Software Engineering Methodologies, especially Agile.
