Infectious Diseases Advanced Pharmacist

We are looking for an antimicrobial advanced pharmacist at the Princess of Wales Hospital. This is a secondment post for 12 months to cover a secondment.

This is a great opportunity for a highly motivated, open minded and dynamic pharmacist who is an excellent communicator with strong interpersonal / relationship building skills.

You will lead the pharmacy AMS service at the Princess of Wales Hospital, supporting the clinical service lead pharmacist to support the development of a culture that reduces associated infection and supports excellence in antimicrobial prescribing. You will work with the wider AMS team across the health board to support the delivery of the AMS strategy. You will lead, plan and undertake audits on compliance with local policies and antimicrobial prescribing and identify potential cost savings associated with AMS within the health board.

You will need to be an experienced pharmacist that has worked across a variety of clinical areas and is now ready to specialise in antimicrobials.

You need experience in service delivery and management and a proven track record of delivering change within dynamic environments.

An independent prescribing qualification is desirable but not essential.

Main duties of the job

To improve patient care and clinical outcomes by developing and leading high quality, safe, effective and efficient use of anti-infectives which meet national and UK strategy and standards.

To provide highly specialised medicines management advice as part of and to the multidisciplinary IPC team.

To provide patient-orientated pharmacy services to inpatients, outpatients and in pharmacist-led clinics or as a pharmacist independent prescriber on ward rounds as appropriate.

Deliver the financial and economic benefits identified in the antimicrobial stewardship programme.

Working collaboratively with consultant microbiologists, to ensure best use of anti-infective medicines according to UHB policies under a national and local strategic framework.

To develop approaches to reduce variation, waste and harm associated with the use of anti-infective medicines.

Collaborate with directorate pharmacists and prescribing advisors to promote consistent best practice in antimicrobial stewardship across primary and secondary care.

Analysing antimicrobial prescribing data and advising on the development of appropriate treatment protocols and care pathways.

Person Specification
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
  • Masters Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent e.g. BSc/BPharm/MPharm
  • Registered member of the general pharmaceutical council (GPhC)
  • Appropriate post graduate qualification e.g. Clinical diploma or equivalent experience Evidence of Continuing Professional Development
  • Appropriate post registration with experience in a range of hospital pharmacy settings
  • Audit/research experience
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Good working knowledge of clinical antimicrobial use and ability to gain advanced knowledge levels.
  • Knowledge of prescribing and pharmaceutical systems and processes
  • Good knowledge of pharmacology and therapeutics.
  • Knowledge of Economics of health care
  • Knowledge of Professional and Legal issues surrounding prescribing and dispensing Working knowledge of risk management
  • Related postgraduate qualifications e.g. Research/Public Health/Ethics
  • Independent prescriber
  • Active membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of GB
  • Knowledge of the ethics governing research/audit.
  • Knowledge of GP practice prescribing systems
  • Knowledge of the GMS contract and community pharmacy contract
Experience
  • Experience required to fulfil the post
  • Use types of achievements and activities that would be likely to predict success in the role rather than 'years', e.g. Extensive previous experience of working with health finance systems.
  • Previous experience working in an antimicrobial/infection control specialist field
  • Previous experience conducting antimicrobial reviews
Aptitude and Abilities
