Infection Prevention Control Deputy Nurse

The Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) nurse will be a visible leader with clinical expertise in the field of IPC and decontamination. The post holder will be an expert IPC specialist nurse, and deputy manager for the infection control service providing clinical and managerial leadership.

The Matron for IPC will provide operational leadership of IPC and service delivery, implementing and delivering the IPC annual plan. The Matron for IPC will promote, influence and develop knowledge in infection control practice through networks of education and training to minimise the risk of healthcare associated infections.

An experienced Infection Control Nurse specialist who will operate across all directorates within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Trust and county wide. To ensure working and maintain relationships with wider IPC team in estates, facilities and decontamination as well as the ICB and UKSHA.

Main duties of the job

Manage and provide leadership for the IPC service to facilitate the implementation of the infection control agenda across the Trust, communicates progress against key performance indicators.

Support the Matron on the decontamination work stream with a view to leading on this.

Ensure that business is conducted according to the terms of reference, and that agendas and minutes are distributed through the approved reporting route.

Ensure appraisals and performance reviews of the team including clinical and non-clinical staff.

Act as a role model and change agent to influence the adoption of evidence based best practice.

Support in IPC policy implementation, audit and quality improvement service development. Provide specialist advice and expertise to support the prevention, surveillance, and control of infection.

To be aware of, and contribute to, clinical governance issues relating to infection control across the organisation.

The role is Monday to Friday in core hours. In areas of high pressure there maybe working hours in the evening or over the weekend in the IPC service for support and advice e.g. winter pressures.

Experience in appraisals, performance management and deputising to a team.

Job responsibilities

You would support the provision of an Infection Control Service within Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation trust and partnership working with other Countywide commissioned services.

The IPC service incorporates the prevention, surveillance, management of outbreaks and investigation and control of infection as well as being the resource in these matters to the organisations to provide advice and support.

The post holder will deputise for the IP&C Team lead at meetings and as a recognised expert support for the IP&C Team. This will include mentorship for members of staff and new starters as well as conducting Appraisal, 1-1s and supervisions where required.

The post holder will be an expert/ have a great knowledge in infection prevention and control resource for staff and all contracted services.
