Job summary

Amey invites applications for an Industry Placement in Geotechnical Engineering based in Belfast. The 12‑month placement runs from September 2027, with a 40‑hour week and a starting salary of £26,582.

As a placement student you will work on desk studies, ground investigations, asset inspections and design reports within the Geotechnical Practice, supporting major infrastructure programmes. You will learn on the job from industry experts, contribute to multidisciplinary projects, and gain

Qualifications

• Currently studying a degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology, Geology or a related subject.
• A Full UK driving licence is required to support site-based work.

• Produce desk studies to determine risk and suitable solutions for design with safety first and foremost
• Plan and supervise ground investigations to inform geotechnical interventions
• Carry out geotechnical asset inspections on major infrastructure in Rail and Highways sectors
• Propose solutions to engineering problems and perform calculations and analysis to determine their suitability
• Prepare specifications, drawings and design reports
• Deliver multidisciplinary schemes in collaboration with colleagues from across Amey Consulting Business

About the Team
Our Geotechnical Practice delivers some of the UK’s most complex and high-profile infrastructure projects across Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales. Working with clients such as National Highways, Network Rail, Transport for London, TransPennine Route Upgrade, Local Authorities, the Ministry of Defence and Welsh Government, we provide specialist geotechnical engineering services throughout the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and asset management through to design, construction support and post-construction assurance.

As part of Amey Consulting, our geotechnical specialists collaborate within a multidisciplinary environment alongside highways, rail, structures, geo-environmental, transport planning and drainage engineering teams. What you’ll be doing
As a Placement Student in our Geotechnical Engineerinf practice, over the 12 months you will be supporting the following
